Thought I would share my day of motorsport togging with you guys. My 'do nothing' approach to getting interesting work finally seemed to be stalling this past few months, so I was quite pleased when this showed up in my inbox as I was still unsure about the whole 'photography as work' thing...
A few shots from a brilliantly organised day at Castle Combe yesterday. Basically, show up, hand over £20 or £40 (depending on car) and get 5 laps passenger ride.
It's fair to say everyone was loving it, the biggest shock to most being the braking power of race cars, and how committed the...
Had a reasonable day down at Combe, weather was perfect but the organisation this year seemed a bit rough around the edges, huge gaps between track activity (hour and half around lunchtime amongst others) meant it was a bit boring at times. Thankfully the crowds were smaller this year, so parked...
I've mentioned it briefly before, but has anyone gone through a phase of having no interest in photography whatsoever? One minute it was my life, now I literally can't even bring myself to take a photo. I can't say anything in particular has caused it, I just stopped one day and haven't even...
Spotted a very spangly 200 in White this evening, parked up on Yarnbrook forecourt between Westbury and Trowbridge.
Number plate confused me briefly until I realised it was September!
I dragged the 120-300 2.8 to this, coughing and spluttering (and completely giving up for most of the red arrows display, bizarrely) before it goes off for its £155 service...it's cheaper to run my car!
Anyhow, something insane like 350,000 people on the Saturday when we went, great...
Am I the only one incredibly anal about website icons? I find it quite handy having direct access from icons on the springboard, but hate it when they just show a screengrab. Thankfully, CS has a nice one :)
Page 087.
Enough said, best Clio shot I've ever seen. Great showing from Renaultsport in the top 100 drivers cars, as expected.
Anyone else got it yet? Unfortunately the print quality seems to be awful.
I've pretty much stopped photography for some time now, no particular reason, just not been interested for ages. Sold pretty much everything but kept hold of my Sigma 20mm 1.8, booked a last minute trip to Ibiza two weeks ago, so I thought I may as well take that and the D90 along for the...
Just managed to squeeze in a visit to Combe on Sunday to see the #66 Elise at my second home. Sadly my lens had several issues and then packed up pretty early on so it has to go off for a - incredibly expensive - service now, hence these are a bit ropey to say the least...
Heading to Combe around 10am this morning I passed a very nice convoy of cars, including an LY 182, Ariel Atom, Porsche GTsomethings, Ferrari etc. I presume heading down to Wilton for the Supercar Day.
Anyone on here?
"Wet" doesn't quite do this event justice, whilst Saturday was fine we woke up in the middle of the night (camped at the circuit) to the sound of heavy rain, it then rained on and off until about 5pm Sunday, including some epic downpours which tested my equipment beyond the limit...not to...
Thought this might start to get boring after a few years running, but nope, it doesn't! Up at 4:30 this morning to make sure I was there for opening (7am), lovely and quiet (relatively) for the first hour, which was great for grabbing some static shots.
The action shots are a little different...
A few shots from my first GP experience. Wasn't intending on taking any pics, but grabbed a few in between standing in awe watching them through Maggots/Becketts and down at Stowe...

I like them very much...
as a bonus (well, some might disagree), they came with this...
Loads of relatively new car for very little money, thrilled to bits with it. Drove from Stoke back to Wiltshire today, MWay munching was way better than expected, but when I...
I spent a leisurely day off down at Thruxton yesterday. Not a clue what was going on or what bikes were what, but it was good fun anyhow.
I admit it, I have no idea why they have an Audi R8 Safety Car.
A few more here...
Took a break from Combe today to visit the local round of the ACU British MMX Championship just down the road near Frome.
I'm still picking dust out of my teeth, nose, mouth and hair now, but it was worthwhile, cracking day, a few pics...
I spent a gorgeous (free) morning down at Combe today, Club Lotus had booked the circuit and the paddock was full of pretty much every type of Lotus going, including my favourite car of all time...
Plenty of action on track, as well...
I picked up a cheap (second-hand, of course) 2.0x Sigma Teleconverter recently for my Sigma 120-300. I had heard it reduced quality a bit but figured it was worth a try.
Was pretty cool, it has to be said. I've never shot with anything like that focal length before and it was amazing just how...
I'm sure some of you have seen this, but it's worth posting imo, just amazing...

Worth having a nosey through the Photostream as well, this is even more impressive imo, especially considering the entire event only lasts 0.8 seconds.
As discussed in another thread, a bit 'meh', lacking that certain special something that pretty much every other event at Combe has. Also attracts a 'special' crowd, fair to say this is the first time I've actually been intentionally elbowed out of the way when taking pics, or overhearing...
Popped over to Weston-super-Mare on Sunday for the annual Sandocross. Basically several classes of car, from £50 Ebay bangers right up to specially built off-roaders and everything inbetween.
Amazing, anyhow. Considering it was free it was probably one of the best motorsport days out I've...
Been working on some of these again lately, as the last round was quite successful in getting some of my togging noticed after submitting them to a few wallpaper sites.
Thoughts/ideas most welcome, particularly on layout of the images and how that fits with how people organise their desktops...
A few pics from a hugely enjoyable day at Combe. Busy as ever and the grids didn't disappoint either (average of 35 or something along those lines)
Spotted RIXPH in the car park, near a very tidy 172 and white Audi R8.
A few piccies anyhow...
This wasn't as good as I was expecting, the new Lambo Trophy Championship pulled out at the last minute due to 'money issues', so some fairly lengthy gaps in the day, and the GT4 was frankly, rubbish.
The GTs and GT3 were fantastic though, particularly the GT3s which had an insane grid and...
Superb weekend, loved every minute of it. Today - amazingly - was my first visit to an actual raceday of a two day meet, bit busy for my liking but the on-track action was spectacular. Loads of pics, anyhow...
Finally got some cracking weather today, so whilst waiting for the BBQ to get going I had a little blast with these little guys, had them for ages but not had a nice enough day to go out laying in the grass etc...
For most of these, an overall view with the 50mm 1.8, then a close up with the...
Not really sure where to put this, but if anyone fancies an excellent free day of race action tomorrow, Lotus on Track have 'bought the gate' at Silverstone tomorrow, meaning anyone can arrive, park up and walk in, no tickets required (you do not need to be a member of LoT or own a Lotus)...
