Decided to hop over to Germany for Easter on the cheap to get away from it all for a little while, had a superb time, gorgeous weather and was surprised at how pretty much of it is (never been before), stayed in Koblenz and visited Berg Eltz and Cochem...all not too far from the 'Ring, incase...
I assume a fair number of people have this site book-marked, but if not, there have been some stunning updates lately...

Cracking day at Brands yesterday, definitely worth the 300 mile round trip. Few piccies here from the Clio Cup, this first race of the season was surprisingly uneventful in terms of bodywork damage so this is probably the last and only time most of these cars will be seen in original form. Race...
First race event since early October for me (long illness has kept me away unfortunately) but the looooong day (6am - 8pm) and 5hrs of driving was well worthwhile, great weather, pretty decent grid sizes and a nice small crowd meant it was perfect to try and get back into the swing of this...
Only dropped into Combe for 2hrs yesterday, my main aim being to get a few standard shots to try and process before the season starts proper for me in a week or two.
How does this look?
To my eyes it's a little over the top, compared to this, which has had virtually nothing done to...
Dropped in for a brief visit to Castle Combe today, first time shooting for the best part of 5 months so I'm ropey to say the least and couldn't really get into the swing of things, good fun though, the Trophy was certainly shifting...
Headed down to Marwell today as the weather was so good. First non-motorsport outing for the 120-300 2.8, and I've just picked up a used Sigma 1.4tc so I had a pretty hefty 168-420mm f4 set-up (getting on for 4kg). It generated an awful lot of comments from people, which made for quite an...
Last week was holiday #4 to New York for me and the other half, can't get enough of the place! Had a cracking time, probably our best trip yet; the weather was incredible (didn't see a cloud for 3 days), the City threw up its usual surprises (that the locals don't give a second glance). Amongst...
We have two winners to say congrats to, Josh2005 way back before Christmas during the normal rounds, and BluePete for his 'Photo of the Year' effort. That means we also have two themes, so either can be interpreted or as luck would have it, they could also be combined with a bit of creativity...
Mentioned this a while back, but it's now about to happen...
http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/news/Canon_and_Nikon_hike_prices_as_pound_plummets_news_274636.html
So Nikon prices up from Jan 12th, Canon about now, and Sony to follow.
Not sure what that really means though, D90s, for...
As subject really. I did, but it was easy because it was a day off work. Very unlikely that I will make it to the end of next week, never mind a year, but I've started! Thought I would put this up in case anyone was considering it but forgot already.
Main idea for me is to shoot something...
Went down to Bournemouth today, sadly the weather was very dull/foggy so the pics are a little flat, but I took the new lens for a spin (Nikon 10.5 Fisheye and Sigma 20mm 1.8) and had lots of fun trying them out.
Obviously there are far more fisheye shots than I would normally want to take, but...
Some bargains to be had, unusually. Particularly the lens sale which has some cracking deals...

If you happen to need a 1.4tc for a Canon you're laughing! Got myself a Sigma 20mm f1.8, much cheaper than anywhere...

Bit of an odd question, but do many of you use the 20mm end of your wide angle (i.e. Sigma 10-20, Canon 10-22) very often?
Currently figuring out what to get with my Christmas money, and whilst I loved my Sigma 10-20, I feel like I should try something different, and to be honest never use wide...
Had a few requests for this after the last guide so here goes. I'm just covering the basics for people new to DSLRs, if you're spending a grand on a fast telephoto hopefully you know what you're doing anyway! I'm ignoring crop factors as this is pretty redundant info, and I've only covered Canon...
Went to Lille and Bruges this weekend, thought we would try out one of those Coach Tour things always advertised in the paper (and yes it was full of old people), picked up 10 minutes walk from our house, Eurotunnel crossing, 5hrs in Lille, stay in a nice hotel, 4hrs in Bruges, Eurotunnel back...
Bit of discussion about this in the previous thread and it seemed to be received well ('normal' service will be resumed after this one closes), basically, post your best pic of 2008 in this thread and we will do the normal vote thing.
Comp runs from now until midnight Thursday 18th December...
I was one of two spectators today, bit on the chilly side to be stood around all day, and almost zero visibility for the first few hours didn't really help :)
Good fun though, some very quick cars out playing (loved the Exige)
finally cleared just as I...
I have a nose around MPB Photographic (and no, I don't work for them!) now and again, and I'm always amazed at how you can build a borderline professional set up for not much more than a top of the range compact or decent bridge camera.
Today for example, Nikon D50 + Nikon 300mm f4 + Nikon...
Enjoyed this, shame the plant didn't seem too interested...need a better subject next time!

Shot over 3.5 hours (1 shot every 5 minutes) with my Nikon D90 and Nikon 50mm 1.8.
Anyone who has experience of a 70-200 2.8 will know they aren't exactly small or light, but offer incredible quality. I absolutely loved mine, but only used it for Motorsport or Zoo trips as it was too big to carry around on holiday etc.
Today, however, I got the ultimate replacement...
Anyone had any joy getting anything out of O2 lately? Better half’s contract is up for renewal but the tariffs have changed since she signed up, essentially now she would get less than she had before (£20 contract) but would have to pay an extra £5 for the privilege. Armed with the latest...

A few people here will be aware that I went to Paris last weekend on an assignment for a photography magazine. Don't want to say too much more on that as it will be published in a few weeks anyway (the deadline was brutal considering I have a full-time job as well!), but as the assignment...
Gave the D90 a good high ISO workout this evening, had it in my bag and just grabbed it for some 'smash and grab' type shots whenever something interesting appeared (the sort of thing I like to do in the daytime), the beauty of this was that I could do the same in darkness as I could in the day...
Followed RIXPH home today at around 5:40pm, I was heading down to my house (Paxcroft Mead) and was a car behind you.
Also, guy sat in a Blue V6 in Aldi car park on his mobile phone whilst my other half was buying some massive fireworks.
Nothing of great interest here, but thought I would share a few photos from the couple of hours I spent at Combe today as I bought a new camera, and unless my eyes deceive me these possibly look a bit better than many of my previous photos, just something about them...
The other thread turned into some completely unrelated Canon warfare, so I'm starting fresh with my thoughts on the D90 after two days of use as I know a few people were interested.
Obviously this is all compared to the D50, so I've never had Live View or anything remotely technological before...
Been saving for 6 months, it was all finally worthwhile today...
(got the D80 battery grip as well, all from the nicest shop in the world, T4 in Swindon)
The screen is silly huge, I've got it next to my battered D50 and the difference is incredible. Oddly though, the grip is slightly...
