I didnt lose any codes the first time. And the fob unlocked the car at 5 this morn (just). But now wont lock it or anything. But it starts. Didnt take any wires off the battery so its nothing as simple as that.

Havent used my car for a day or so, went to use it today and nothing! Wont even try and start. So i put the battery on charge. It charged up ok. Hour after i took it off charge went to start it and still nothing. Heaters, radion etc.. wont even come on. Anyone got a idea what it could be...

Got a 15" Velocity gold sub and custom made box if anyone is interested in it. Its hardly been used and is in a1 condition. The box is carpeted in blue so looks great with the sub as its gold. Also have a Helix amp to run it, this is boxed and has never been used. Cheers

This may sound like a silly question, but how does it work? Not sure what its meant to display but all i ever have up is the milage. The button next to it seems to do nothing at all. Would have thought it has a milage trip? Anyone know how to get it working? Cheers Oh its a Mk1 172.

So what i paid for a year has turned out to be 4months insurance?

Thats what i thought, but the letter they sent me indicates otherwise. Saying my insurance is now terminated, and if i pay monthley they will be taking the rest of the money out of what they will pay me out.

Once a car has been writen off what happens with the insurance? Do you just get a new car and change it over? Or is that then the end of the insurance, and you need to start again?

Dont think the insurance company would see it the same way tho.

I thought the clutch was fine? The first one i had in the 16v was heavy! Got used to it tho, now i prefer a stiffer clutch. Id like my next car to have 6 gears too, but that puts me back to another gti-6. Only had it for 4 months but ive still had one, best off getting something different.

The GTI-6 is bigger and weighs alot tho. And it has the 6th gear, you gotta love that.

Loved mine too, but a Volvo to a liking to the side of mine. Worse than a truck a volvo! What was easier to insure?

Nice one mate. Thought it would be lower as my GTI-6 was group 16. The GTI badge normaly puts a few groups on. As the 16v was only group 12 due to being named 16v.

As above, what insurance group is a Mk1 172? Is it 16? Cheers Tony

Group 16, they are quicker than a 106. Pulling away the 106 is gonna be faster but once going the 306 will catch it. It has short gear ratios which helps alot. Id still have mine if it hadnt been wrote off new years eve!

Id say the valvers quicker than the xsi.

XSI quite easily id have thought.

What bhp is a 172 exactly tho? Just read in another thread that they are about 166bhp??? And the Rallye is 167bhp is it? So its gonna be really close i would have thought.

I was 19 when i got mine but had 2 years ncb. Trident, or tangent? ONe of the 2 insured me with mods decleared for £800 and something.

Put a switch in the live wire. Then put the live wire to your battery +ve and the other one to the -ve side of the battery. I done this in my old car but wired them to the interior light, so when the doors opened they come on. Looked good.
