Shouldn't make any difference, most clio's 172/182 run a bit ruff when cold people say it's to do with the exhaust sensor needs to warm up they always been like it
Normally that mean's the starting motor is sticking one of telling get some one to turn the key and then if you give the starting motor a few taps with some see if it starts if it does its sticking and you'll need a new one
You can only get a £70 fine for no MOT they can't give any point's but the police will report you for no road tax which is a big fine and can take the car away
If you've never taken a gearbox off then I wouldn't bother it would take you a day if every thing go's well I've done it loads of times on rs turbo's and paid some one else to do my clio, you need to get the car up high and that's not easy with limited tool, there's a gearbox place near me that...
A lot of R/R's have always been pot luck with figures if its not a bad rolling road it's a bad operator it's been like that from the start and will be to the end
Mine has the pops and bangs and still has the standard cat until I get a decat fitted and it doesn't make any pops and bangs and so what if it does blow the inside of the cat apart lol lol I'm sure the RSPCA won't come round .. am no I'm not joking know fooking not
Does the imobllzer light go off? As it sounds like that's kicking in so could be the key fob, key reader, or UCH, check the relays under the bonnet make sure there all clean or could be crank sensor might need to be taken off and cleaned
