My 172 Cup has done 27k miles and has been serviced according to the book.
I have noticed that after a run when the engine is idling there is an intermittient mechanical rattle - its not ded loud, its almost like a tappet noise. I had the cambelt changed two weeks ago but the rattle was there...
No pics as of yet but Ive noticed a buildup of thick oil / grease that seems to be mostly dryed onto a half inch diameter pipe low down infront of the alternator. Looks like theres some kind of sensor on the pipe with a white connector.
Any ideas?
Common fault?
Im thinking power steering...
Yeah I think they run rich when they are cold - mine stinks of fuel when I start it in the morning. If youve got a mental exhaust then a rich mixture will make it pop rather a lot! :)
Im not so sure, I followed the 8mm thick pipe from the valve to the plenum chamber - that can only mean vaccuum
They definately run a bit funny when they are cold tho but I dont think thats related to the poostick valve
:)
How does the acoustic valve work?
I mean, does it shut when there is vaccuum in the plenum chamber or does it open?
If it shuts when it "sees" vaccuum then could you just clamp the vacuum hose with something so that it sever sees a vaccuum and therefore never shuts?
I know it sounds lazy...
I got one of these done at a powerflow dealer in Burnley (cheers MRBILLY) and can definately vouch for the quality. They charged me £275 for a stainless replica of the standard system. Fabricated and fitted it in an hour and a half. Theyve also got a nice warm waiting room with a swish leather...
Had a full stainles stealthy catback system fitted at Burnley Powerflow today. Top Job, £275 all in and it only took an hour and a half. Tidy waiting room to sit in reading through a stack of mags. Cheers for the recommendation! :)
Re: 172FF Sump Plug Socket and Oils - Which one ? ?
Just found a cheap place for the Millers oil http://www.mjpshop.co.uk/product_info.php?id=23&pid=40
...........are you the nutcase on youtube? Ive seen a cracking onboard video on there of somebody driving the nackers off a 172 Cup around the ring. I saw the video then went out and bought a Cup the next day. :)
Im genuinely scared.
Ive only just got my 172 so Im still getting used to it, not really done much more than 100. Ever had any problems with these cars overheating when flat out for ages? Im thinking of going for a play on an Autobahn.
Just out of interest, the book says 138mph.........
What is the fastest indicated speed anybody has seen in a standard 172 Cup.............on a private road or in a closed environment obviously.
Childish question I know. :)
Ive seen a lot of references to this on this fine forum. What does it do? Where is it? what effect to removing it have?
Im running a 172 Cup, bit quicker than my old 1.4RT......
