I did it on my 1.2 a while back, made a world of difference, stopped most rttles and the sound was improved, but i covered the complete door and boot skin. Only drawback is it ways a ton.
Ordered some myself as the cheapest i was offered were £10 second hand.

Same situation, i had paradas on the front and among other things meant i lost all grip when braking and went into the back of someone. I now have t1-r's on my 172 (fronts) and they are great for what little they cost, look good as well.
I flattened mine down with 120 paper on a drill adapter, then just work up the grades of paper, ideally to get it perfect it needs to be buffed with a metal polisher.

Have a read through that, the 1st couple of stages you can miss/adjust to suit( finer grade paper the rub off the laquer), then just ensure you have a good clean surface for each new layer.
