A guy who I work with uses his xbox and ps2 on his projector setup with no problems. Why is it you can't play games then, I wouldn't use it on my computer as it would mean routing a long bit of vga cable around the room, and its not exactly thin cable

Don't think fear was made to work on a linux distribution, unlike quake 3 for example where you can get Q3 for Linux (which i found alot faster than the windows version). Running through Wine might work, but I doubt you'd see an increase in performance.

Not sure if the blueyonder news servers will allow you to connect 'externally' as I don't think BY users need to enter in a password or anything to connect to the servers

Alot of web hosting companies now use a nice bit of software called Fantastico, it installs various web scripts such as forums/discussion boards, like phpbb (as mentioned above) and does all the 'dirty' work for you. Does this company have its own website, or will you be doing it all from scratch?
