Limewire requires Java, and from what I've noticed on my own machine is that any Java programs, Limewire, Azureus etc etc just end up slowing the machine down to an unusable level. I don't run any background programs, so it can't be that causing the problem

My PC has an AMD athlon xp1700 in it, and the fan failed on my last heatsink. It still worked at idle, and at small loads, before getting unstable. It would've become unstable and restarted/hung before it really killed itself.

You sure the clutch housing is rubbing on the engine, as its bolted to the flywheel and definately isn't going anywhere. Could just be your alternator belt which needs tightening.
