I very much doubt you'll get tomtom running on there, as its not in the supported list on tomtoms site. You'd have to find an application that runs on Linux, that'll do the GPS stuff for you, but I can see getting maps etc for it being a bit hard.

could be going into standby/suspend mode, where the computer remains on, but it only runs at something like 20% of what it should, saving on power. Best off checking all the power options, making sure it isn't going into standby after so many minutes

You'll only get full connection speed when your very close to the router due to signal quality/strength issues, on the router configuration do you have anything like 'burst transfer' or something like that ticked/selected if theres an option. I know theres one on my 54g+ router
