Am I right in thinking that the lower the better? (springs only, original dampers). I aint too arsed about ride quality, just wanna stop feeling like Im driving a jelly.
Have yourself a looksee http://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=6&TopicID=48921&SearchPagePosition=1&search=172+Bumper+cost&searchMode=allwords&searchIn=Thread&forum=0&searchSort=dateDESC&ReturnPage=Searchhere
Ive got 16" 5 spoke 172 wheels on my 1.2. I havent noticed any performance loss.
A mate in work has the same car but with the 15" Dynamique wheels on, and mine does look better.
The 172 wheels offset is slightly different to 1.2 wheels, so you would need 5mm spacers on the back wheels.
When letting people in the back of my car (52 Clio, 3dr) I have to puch the front seats forward. The drivers seat then drops back and slides into its original position, where as the passenger seat doesnt, it folds back ok, but then you have to adjust the seat to slide backwards. Is this...
It was only a quick look round the car, did notice the spoiler, didnt look round the front of the car so didnt see the new bumper, plus it was locked up so I couldnt get inside.
Is that all the differences? Have there been any mechanical changes to last years models?
On our round looking for a new car for my mate, stopped off at Southport Renault, gave me a chance to see what a clean Clio looks like.
Had a look round a new Dynamique, basically the same, only it had 15" 172 wheels on. Even though there is only an inch difference, they looked far smaller...
Could anyone clear up a couple of questions for me?
1. Is the rear wiper meant to come on automatically when reversing whilst the front wipers are on? (The car has smart wipers and read on this forum that this was meant ot happen).
2. The rear washer on my car doesnt squirt, it sort of...
Ive had:
Renault 5 (1.0)
Renault 21 GTS (1.7)
1991 Clio (1.2)
2002 Clio (1.2)
The first 3 cars had the heater fans pack in, so they only had 1 speed, the 5 drivers door catch packed in so I tied it shut with some rope and used the passenger door to get in & out, the 21 cambelt snapped...
I had light scratches on my bonnet, looked like it was just the laquer (my dad had selotaped L-plates to my car and I got heavy handed trying to get the sticky backing off). I used the original T-cut (red bottle, applied it like you would car wax) on it and it came up like new.
Nice car mate. Just going by Autotrader, some lower mileage Clios, same age, between £2k & £3k, dont think mods are going to add that much to the cars value.

In the wheel and tyre bilble section there is a tyre calculator, put in your tyre size, then the 17" tyre size and itll tell you how much difference in speed there will be.
e.g. OLD: 185/55/15 NEW...
I dont think that they are that bad, I wouldnt put them on anything like a 172 cos I drive quite sensibly in the wet and have felt the tyres start to loose grip around corners, can also spin them very easily in the wet, and my car has a fly-mo engine.
Your best bet is to do a http://erc.qmuc.ac.uk/cliosport/gallery/full/1073475358__search.jpg, there are loads of people on here, with loads of questions and answers about wheels, comfort, handling etc.
Heres one I prepared earlier...
A mate of mine bought new alloys, he got all new wheel bolts with them. If you didn fit the alloys yourself, then its possible that whoever did replaced your bolts with the new ones that came with the wheels.
JR are about the cheapest springs I can find, £64, I know you get what you pay for, but to me springs are a coil of metal - how much difference can there be beween cheap springs?
I have done searches and can see that the PI springs seem to be the most popular, should I just stop being a tight...
I want to lower my car, with 35mm springs only, and was wondering what effects this would have on my warranty. I realise that if the shocks wear out prematurely then Renault will blame it on the mods, but is that it, could Renault blame the springs for anything other than shock damage?
Thanks...
Cheers Iain, both keys now work properly again. I might have guessed that it would be something simple. Thinking about it now, I do have a tendancy to chuck my keys about, I know now to be a bit more careful with them.
How long does the battery on for the central locking blipper last for?
I have had my car for just over a year, the blipper stopped working the other day. I swapped it over for the spare key, only for that blipper to stop working after a couple of days.
I seemed odd that both batteries would...
Ive got 16" 172 alloys on my 1.2. Its definately an improvement over the 14" steelies that was on originally, but it does look like its sitting too high. There is quite a big gap between the tyre and the top of the wheel arch, and would prefer it to be at least 30mm lower (just not sure if I...
Ive read about a mini MPV called Cliospace, I think that it will be based on the next Clio (2005) platform, not the current shape.
Read about it here...
Have a look at http://www.tyresave.co.ukhttp://www.tyresave.co.uk, they have a fair selection of alloys, there are also pictures of cars wearing various alloys.
I have looked up this question myself as Im planning to some lowering.
The advice Ive read says that you can lower 60mm with 17" wheels without any problems.
If you are only replacing the springs (not the shocks) then you should stick to lowering around 35mm.
Generally, the shorter the...
