They needed to test the exhaust so were bound to stick a few miles on the car, the exhaust needs run in a bit to find out the true note and performance.
300 miles on the car is fair deal considering what you have got in return.
VM is a trusted technology route these days, but you are right to be cautious, at the end of the day it's not going to be as good as a dedicated solution, but may well suit your current needs.

Half that stuff you could work out yourself and sort it with the help of tyre place anyway.
Do a search for cutting power, I'm sure there's lots of info on the HT leads, or coil packs are prone to going easily on the 1.6.
