Ye Mr Burpspeed was trying to give me some 'tuition' and it all went abit Pete Tong, came off at lodge and proceeded to cut the grass and eat some gravel on the way. Damaged the bumper clips, smashed fog light and snapped splitter... oh and bruised confidence! :o
Def the wheel bearings mate. Means new disc's both sides. May as well do the pads while your at it. Circa £250 for the parts + fitting.
Look in the guides section on here for a guide.
Oh Dear mate!
Yes the box fastens to the bell housing using different size nuts bolts and washers and easy to mix up or loose them.
I guess if some bolts are missing the added stress on the rest of the casing has caused it to crack.
I know Harry had ALOT of trouble with this car but he also...
So helpful! ^^ Be gentle this is his first post FFS lol.
Replacement engine mount from Renault are circa £70-£80. Im not sure if you can get pattern parts or not.
My advice would be to go for the poly bushes as it cheaper to do, will reduce engine movement and won't cause any additional...
I know said car (BUP) and the previous owner. The previous owner had alot issues with his box and I believe he changed the box him self about a year ago. He posted all the details of it up on here.
Erm why would you want to do that? ^
Its nothing short of a massive job to do the box, you need the right tools, the time and the patience to do it. There are a few different methods, but general consensus is that if you have an engine hoist or access to one and you have the space, engine out...
Current scrap price for cast aluminum is about £800ish per tonne or 80p per kg. Bet that rocker cover weighs about 1 or 2kg max? So your talking about £1.60 if you sold it to a foundry or about £1 to a scrap dealer. ha ha.
You may get about get about £20 for alloy wheels as scrap thou.
Its good practice to replace any gaskets that you disturb. Its a bit of a gamble not replacing it as it may start to leak air and cause idle/running issues.
I just bought one from Renault for about £10ish.
Oil cooler keeps oil temps down and oil pressure up. The oil pump can't pump the oil as effectively at high temps.
My view is that its overkill unless your running a highly tuned engine or turbo setup. I dont think even the clio cup racers have oil coolers? You far better off just running...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Their definitely not made out of low grade steel as it is a high strength part, probably a carbon based steel made from electric arc furnace then forged and heat treated or tempered. Which brings me back to my first point that welding heat will weaken and...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Hubs are made from high strength steel and normally a forging. If you weld the studs onto the hub you could disrupt the heat treatment and cause stress in the metal. Personally i'd just araldite them in, they wont go anywhere.
Dont think its possible for the rings to slip.
Common causes:
-Dirty abs teeth. give each ring a clean and make sure the gaps in the teeth have no dirt.
-Broken/rusted/missing tooth on ABS ring
-Dirty ABS sensor - try cleaning the detector sensor
-Faulty sensor
As its a time consuming job...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Heard using thread lock or copper greese is a bad idea on wheel bolts.
Not sure if this would reduce the risk or help in anyway, but what about a stud conversion kit where the studs are glued in the hub and you just undo the nuts to get the wheel off (im...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
This almost happened to me in my valver at Oulton Park! I swear I torqued the bolts with a torque wrench to correct settings. Luckily I heard a vibration/humming noise (similar to a knocking shaft/bearing) and pulled in to find ALL four wheel bolts finger...
I bought a mk1 valver a year ago that everyone said was in mint original condition, but soon after I found out it was rotten throughout and had repair work all over it. Mechanically it was a long way from mint as well.
As above, uber money pits.
If you don't do anything your self your looking at a massive bill of thousands. you sound like you dont know what your getting into. Its a labour of love to restore these things and takes months/years.
he he, are you for real?
If you want extra fuel economy strip as much weight as you can ie: spare wheel and tool kit, fit low rolling resistance tyres and give it a full service.
You could probably improve your economy just by changing your driving style.
