Some people dont ever change the box oil, however I changed mine on my 172 ph1 and it did make the gear shifting more smooth and precise. I'd argue that its worth doing.
As above,
Clean all the ABS rings on each hub, inspect for damage or missing tooth.
Check condition of ABS sensors and wiring, wipe each one clean to make sure they are getting a reading.
Most common cause seems to be a dirty/damaged ABS ring on the hub.
They are just made from zinc plated steel. The zinc plating corrodes off after a while so might be worth sealing them with something if you want them to last longer.
I think this has happened because you tried to field mod them and use them for something their not designed to do, it wont be...
Re: Mk1 F4R'd Track Car Project [2010 Winter Rebuild]
Going off that video there seems to be abit of excessive play there. Mine drive shaft moves abit but not that much.
Wondering if anyone can help narrow this one down for me, or point to most likely cause:
Car in question: 172 Ph1.
Symptoms:
Car lunges / pulls violently to the left under heavy breaking
ABS light is on and ABS is not working. Under heavy breaking the front left wheel locks up but the...
Im guessing a custom exhaust company would cut the twin tail pipes off and weld on a 90 deg bend, other wise hot exhaust gases would melt your bumper.
Ring round a few companies.
In that case get it jacked up and remove any plastic undertray covers. Give it an inspection, if its leacking as bad as you say it will be pretty obvious where its coming from. If not, clean everything up and watch for leaks appearing.
Not changed a CV before, although I have just done a...
Most common place is the selector seal (where the gear linkage attaches to) but there is no permanent fix for this without removing the box and sealing from the inside.
Pretty much all clio sport gear box's weep or drip oil. Just depends how fast yours is losing oil? If its not too bad, keep...
Sun roofs were not an option on any UK 172's. Although im sure I have seen pics of one albeit very VERY rare.
Must be a rep if its got a sunroof?
Why do you want one? they are heavy and often end up leaking. Ask any mk1 Clio owner!
Most people on here tend to replace the top engine mount, lower front sub frame mount and lower gear box mount with OEM Renault mounts, then go for polyurethane (aka Powerflex) dog bone bushes.
If you can afford the ktec engine mounts then go for them as they are stronger but will cause abit...

Few things to check:
Check for rust on the arches as some have started to go now
Crash damage; does it drive straight? brake straight? over spray on body work or colour mismatch, check spare wheel pan floor for damage.
Does it idle ok?
Check oil level and coolant
Does engine bang under hard...
You could free alot of room up by relocating the battery to the boot and chopping out some more room for air filter housing. But you already though of this right?
OE pattern rear pads like Bendix pads are about £20 - £25. Take a look on ebay or Yozza.
Just buy the chepest pads you can for the rears and the best for the front.
Rear pads should be able to do 60k miles +
Markcup got 90k miles out of his OE rear pads on his 172 cup.
I will be convoying over with Jonny1*2 in my new bus so I will add us to the list below. Dont think we will have time for a power run thou.
Not been to any Clio meets for a while since I sold my turbo valver, will be good to get back into the scene.
