Surely the bit most likely to fail on a rack is the mounting points, and probably the one nearest the pinion, where both the racks are cast ali?
The twingo rack is beefier as it is all cast, so I'm an not sure it is stronger. Plus if the steal fails it should bend first and so might give some...
Do you really think the twingo rack is a lot stronger? I am pretty happy with the dci rack.
I am halfway thorough the conversion. Got old rack off without dropping subframe or anything. Just cut the pipes and pulled it out. Column in tomorrow, job done. Go for a drive.
Has anyone been...
Just been going through everything making sure I have all i need to start the conversion and I am missing the plug that puts power into the ECU. Bugger. Any ideas where I can get on at short notice?
I can't disagree with that. Personal preference is always going to be a major factor with anything people buy. If you can make something that everyone likes then you are on to a winner!!
Yes I agree completely that personal preference can play a big part, but tyre variation can be fairly substantial. Major tyre companies still have these sorts of issues with premium tyres and work extremely hard and spend a lot of time and money trying to reduce the variation. I don't know the...
I have 4 on mine. Utter crap. I didn't want to admit it but I hate them. I don't even think they are good enough in the wet to make up for their poor dry weather performance.
Not sure they are dangerous tho. Once they are loaded up they are predictable enough and their level of grip isn't too...
I am sure there is as well, but it is also a significant reduction compared to the standard set up. Just wanted to see if any of the early runners had noticed any issues.
I have all parts ordered and on the way except wires but will buy and make them once I have everything else.
How are people finding the new aux belt setup? The new root significantly reduces the amount of contact with the water pump pulley. Just wondering if anyone has seen any issues?
If its brakes tow it. If a child ran out in front of you are you confident your brakes are 100%. From what you have said they are not. Tow it.
i would say one of a few things:
something stuck between pad and disc.
fucked calliper, prob rear.
loose wheel ( unlikely but easy to check )
brakes...
My mate Steve ("whom" on here) got home from the pub drunk the other night and rebuilt one of mine as It was off the car. He made it look easy and it seems to be working spot on.
If the other option is to be place it you may as well have a go first, if it goes wrong swap it and you haven't...
I know its a pain but please could you make this into a guide now? I am planning on doing it soon and reading through this thread every time I need something, although interesting, is quite time consuming!!
I was just trying to stir it up a bit!!! :p
I guess the valve would just give you that extra ability to tune it if required.
TBH I think the new setup you have is going to be extremely good. I can see you ever running out of brakes, you will over heat or break something else before these...
Brakes have one job. Turn kinetic energy into heat. The more kinetic energy the more heat. A turbo clio vs an NA clio that are otherwise the same on the same track will have different kinetic energy. The clio with the turbo will reach the end of every straight at a higher speed. Corner speed...
Can you pull what is left of the key out to do the fuel cap, or maybe try and see if you can get a copy of it cut? Not sure how cutting new keys works if the key is broken but it might be possible?
No I mean can I run it with just the Epas column like on a standard dci or 1.2 so with assistance but out any adjustment. Would save me 40 odd pounds to start with, I guess I could always add it at a later date. Or so I need it to get the system to work on a 172?
Sorry for the stupid questions.
