Which HUs work with the fingertip controls? I dont want anything flash and I dont want loads of pointless graphics to confuse me. Ability to play back MP3s would be good and Id like to keep the standard CD changer (but I bet thats not possible). Any recommendations?

Yours was one of the threads about JBL526es that I read. Everyone who uses them seems to like them and Im not arsed about having expensive ICE. Just got pissed off with the crappy cardboard speakers. I cant have 6x9s as about 50% of the time I have no rear parcel shelf.....or back seats...

So would one have 6x9 instead of rear speakers, as well as rear speakers, with a sub, instead of a sub??? I still dont understand why.

Done! In the dark, in less than an hour, with no experience of this sort of ICEy thing at all. Pity that it makes the back speakers seem extra pants now. Looks like another trip to Halfords tomorrow :cry:

Okay.... a) how do I get the cover off the speakers in the front?! Does it unclip, or do I need to take off the whole panel? b) is it just a case of pull off the old clips and push them onto the new speakers, or is it not that easy?

Well, just popped to H*lfords and bought some JBL526e speaker things. Settled on those ones after reading some posts on this forum. They didnt have the Pioneers. Just got to figure out how to fit them :confused:

Thanks Tom, but Im more confused than ever now! Too much choice... Ive had a listen to a few different 13cm speakers in Halfords, but they were playing from radio and all of them sounded a bit cack, even the expensive ones. Which ones are likely to work ok with the std head unit? :confused:

I want something with a bit more punch than the standard speakers. I had some nice front speakers in the Williams and I miss em, but I have no idea what they were. I know bugger all about ICE. Are front speakers easy to fit? Which brand/models should I look at? Is it worth replacing the rear...

Can I suggest what might seem really obvious, but check your tyre pressures! If theyre not even the car will pull all over the place.

Those AP22 times of Richs look about right to say the MK1 had an open IK on it. An open IK in the engine bay fecks up your times. I did some experiments with an open kit in the engine bay and even did a couple of 8 second runs to 60.

:o I seem to remember a dashingly handsome bloke in a gorgeous silver mk1 172 the same day beating a red MK2 with PADDYS on the plate down the strip a few times. I seem to remember him getting 14.603. Dunno who he was though.....
