Yeah, make sure they change the pollen filter which should be done every 12,000 miles, because until I showed them my service schedule in the handbook they were convinced it didnt need doing.
The parts themselves are quite cheap, the bulk of the cost is in labour.
What annoys me is that I am...
Well Ive got it booked in for Wednesday next week to try and fix the 4k buzz/rattle (3rd attempt!), so Ill get them to check out the whole aircon/climate system, although knowing them they will just say everything is fine.
Girlracer,
Im sure its ok to turn the temperature down to 16, else why would it let you? Does the air gush out of your vents when the fan is on full?
Chris.
The stupid thing is you can hear the fan going really fast, but not much seems to be coming from the vents, I wonder if one of the flaps is sticking/broken that directs the airflow to th various outlets?
You air con certainly sounds like it is working better trhan mine, the air does feel conditioned coming out of the vents, but its not as cold as I think it should be and there isnt much of a gust even at full fan speeds. Do other people get a powerful gust from the vents or just gentle gust as I...
With the hot weather yesterday, had the aircon on automatic and set the temperature to the coldest it would go (about 16deg C I think?), the fan was on full but the car didnt get that cold. With my old Cavalier having the fan on full gave you a massive gust of air into the car, but on the Clio I...
Ive done 24,000 on my contis, swapped front with back at 20,000.
Think the main reason that they have lasted so long is that most of my driving is on the motorway.
Chris.
UPDATE:
Well the rattle is still there, exactly the same as before, so the new bolt they have fitted has done absolutely jack sh*t.
Gonna give them one more chance to fix it, if they dont I will be getting Renault UK involved.
Chris.
Michael,
Call me a sucker, but Im going to give them the benefit of the doubt. If it still does it after I have picked it up tonight they will be getting a nasty phone call. I have already mentioned to them that I thought it was the centre section of the exhaust/cat but they think its the heat...
UPDATE:
Well the car has gone back in today to have a new bolt fitted which they say will cure the 4k rattle.
I also pointed out that they had not replaced the pollen filter on the 24k service (this has to be done every 12,000 miles), after much arguing, and showing them the service schedule...
I dont think the ECU can detect the Octane of the fuel that you use, all it can do is change the ignition settings when the knock sensor detects detonation (pinking), which I imagine would happen more on lower octane petrol.
If you go to the following site, (in French, but has photos):
http://www.rs-team.org/frames.htmlhttp://www.rs-team.org/frames.html
Click on the Entretien link on the left followed by Divers followed by Remplacement du filtre dhabitacle [RS1-RS2]
Just follow the pictures step by step.
Chris.
VivJ, I dont agree, my wifes VW Lupo has an immobiliser and you can turn the key straight to the starting position and it will start every time, no messing around waiting. This is the first car I have come across that has this problem, and I have driven many cars with immobilisers.
Yep, get exactly the same problem.
Ive found that if you turn the ignition on and wait for the dash light to go out then turn to the starting position it seems to start first time. There was a thread about this a long while ago. It is quite a common problem on 172s.
I remember someone...
UPDATE:
Well the 4k rattle has now returned after a week, so its back in to Renault friday next week for them to have another look. They said they fixed it by doing something with the heat shield. Initially this seemed to cure it, but for some reason its back again.
Im a bit confused because...
Thanks for the info chaps. Nosh, for the 36000 service I am either going to try Redhall, or Griffs.
Matbrown, nah, I wasnt there on Monday, I took the car in on Wednesday and picked it up on the Friday evening.
As a Renault main dealer they must get in quite a few 172s, its the way they try...
Guess what, gave the car some stick this morning on the M1 and the 4k rattle/buzz has gone. Now I am confused. Was I getting the same thing as everyone else or not, because in most cases the exhaust mid section has had to be replaced to fix it. Im only aware that they checked the exhaust heat...
And I also forgot to mention that they told me that they had test drove it, they had done 30 miles in it, I think that is a bit excessive to test it out?
sjtb, see my post about the hastle Ive had trying to get them to sort out the 4k rattle: http://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=2&TopicID=42868&PagePosition=1http://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=2&TopicID=42868&PagePosition=1
Took my mk2 172 in for its 24000 service (after being quoted 2 conflicting prices). I told them I wanted the 4k rattle sorting and explained it was probably the mid section of the exhaust. Also I wanted a new screw for the engine plastic cover which had dissapeared since the last service.
Had a...
I dont believe it!!!
Just booked the car in and queried the price, it is now £186, great member of staff quoted me £196 and the other £186. Do they make the prices up as they go?
Also, I mentioned the 4000k rattle and they recon its the exhaust heat shield.
The other thing I am going to do is make sure my washer fluid is topped up to maximum on the day and see if they charge me for washer fluid. I paid £185 for my 12000 service at the same place less than a year ago.
Mike, they didnt say why it was more than the 12000 service, as far as I am aware there isnt a lot of difference between the 12000 and 24000 service. I do remember reading that they do a road test on the 24000 service though. I am going to make sure I note down the mileage, I would have thought...
