Ive had exactly the same problem. My steering wheel was replaced for a brand new one about two weeks ago by Renault Leicester under warranty. Its a design fault so get them to replace it under warranty!
Chris.
OK, Im happy now that just changing the mid section is normal, but surely ic cant be too hard to connect the 2 sections with a sleeve that doesnt leak.
Also the exhaust is popping a bit at idle, is this also a result of the exhaust blowing?
My mk2 172 has had the mid section of the exhaust changed to cure the 4k rattle, however it is now blowing from a joint which is located on the hump going over the rear axle. I was always under the impression that the 172 exhaust was one piece from behind the cat to the tailpipe? if so it looks...
Yep, the 24,000 mile service is an A service as is the 12,000 mile one. The 36,000 mile service is a B one, where they do some extra jobs. I wouldnt have expected it to have cost any more than £190 at any Renault dealer. Also, make sure they change the pollen filter (passenger compartment), as...
My car was in at Renault Leicester for 4 days whilst they did some warranty jobs.
When I got in and turned the ignition on the stereo was really loud, so I turned it down and switched it off.
Used the stereo for the first time since then, and now the speakers are making horrible farty...
_KDF, it really does piss me off, the thing is its getting kind of silly in that im visiting them nearly every week. If they just did their job properly in the first place. Its also kack that Renault fit speakers obviously not up to the job!
Well they kept my 172 for 3 1/2 days and have replaced my steering wheel with a new one after the insert on the old one split. They have finally replaced the mid section of the exhaust which has cured the 4k rattle, this is the fourth time it has been in for this. Previously they kept going on...
UPDATE:
Well they have stripped the dashboard right down and have found the problem, apparently a fan or something has burnt out and the new part is on order to be fitted next week. It takes them 4 hours of stripping down the dash to get to the affected part!
Renault Leicester rang today to tell me what they have done to my car:
- Fitted a new steering wheel due to the insert becoming unstuck on the previous one
- Replaced the exhaust mid section to cure the 4k buzz
- Removed the wire connector underneath the passenger seat and soldered the...
Now Im even more worried, did ask where the car was going to be kept tonight and got told it will be staying in the garage in bits. I really hope it gets fixed without introducing more rattles!
What bothers me the most is that I had so much hastle with my last car, was literaly having to take...
UPDATE:
Car went in today to be fixed, they agreed that the aircon was not working properly but hadnt found the cause. Its staying in tonight and tommorow so they can take out the dashboard and start investigating. Bit worried that its got to be stripped down to this extent but if the problem...
UPDATE:
The whole steering wheel is going to be replaced. I presume it is easier to do this rather than messing about trying to glue on a new insert?
Chris.
Scudetto, mine has had the 4k rattle since day 1, at first I could be arsed to get it fixed, but it has just been in for its 24k service so I thought Id get them to look at it, to cut a long story short, its now going in tommorow to have it looked at again (3rd time lucky?) . Last time they...
y0z2a, yeah I think the heat is responsible, pretty poor design, they just stick them inserts on with what looks like hot melt glue, and there wasnt much of it to hold it on either. If they had designed it properly the insert would clip into place or something?
Chris.
ak_uk, because it happened before a long drive home, I had no choice but to drive with it loose, problem was that it has now split, so its gonna have to be replaced. Oh how I love renault build quality!
I have the standard alloys on my 172 mk2 and I find the inner edge of the spokes if quite sharp, cut myself a few times cleaning them. Wish there was a way of cleaning behind the spokes easily without having to take the wheels off?
BrynO, my wife lets her car get into a right state, shes got...
Cheers, for that, but Im hoping they will be able to fix mine or give me a new one as its obviously dodgy build quality again. It looks like they stick the steering wheel inserts on using hot melt glue, and they certainly havent used much hence it coming un-stuck. Im suprised this hasnt...
Great, the list of problems is increasing, Got into my car last night, it had been sitting in the works car park all day in full sunlight. The right hand side insert on the steering wheel (the bit where your thumb rests) had became unstuck at the bottom and was sticking out, by the time I had...
All I can say is that is you are stuck in a traffic jam on the M1 in this weather, aircon is a god send, once yourve had it theres no turning back!
And that demist button.........;)
Wes, well Ive been told the 4k rattle is caused by the heatshield round the exhaust. They ordered a new bolt which they fitted last week, but the rattle is still there. The car is going back in Wednesday next week for them to have another try at fixing it. Quite a few people on here have had the...
