Rasclart, do you have a large collection of vinyl or is it just for playing around?
I only have a few LPs but it was amazing what the most entry level player - the Debut - could do; even compared against my Copland CDP.
Will it just be "to play some old records"?
Or are you looking to get...
Project Debut's are fine value for money, I borrowed one recently:
But for a few hundred you'll be able to get a Rega, which have more upgrade potential later.
I remember you have Naim stuff? I can't recall which models to know if they include a phono stage. External ones are generally...
Don't bother, I'd say. I've had mixed results, and find although it may free up some revs higher up, I lost some lower down torque, and the noise, although fine when you're in the mood, can be annoying around town.
Standard for me, these days.
Saving for the 172s...
Thanks, Meggerman. It was this scene in Casino Royale that particuarly bugged me on BluRay, but I'd never noticed it on standard DVD.
There's an interesting read about 24p/24hz here.
Panasonic also write a bit about applications of it here.
Regards,
That Samsung player was just plugged into a Panasonic TH42PX70 and sometimes a new Sharp 1080p panel - I can't remember the model.
The Samsung player just isn't that great, IMO. But that doesn't mean BluRay is bad as it's only a 1st (?) gen player, and I'm sure there's better to come.
I prefer...
To ensure we're on the same wave length, by hardware, misconfiguring hardware, and hardware settings are you bascially referring to TV settings - contrast, brightness, etc, etc?
I haven't seen enough BluRay/HD-DVD players yet to respond on that basis, but I'll come from a slightly different...
That is a difficult dilemma - which is better, HD-DVD or a very good DVD player?
But then is a 197 better than a 1*2, and then are they better than a Williams?
Newer things are always better on paper - more resolution... more bhp... etc... - but then the older variants can be more enjoyable...
I don't think either format will take off in the same way that DVD did.
DVD was a significant leap from VHS in both quality and convenience, which was why it was so successful. Nowadays DVD is so cheap - £40 supermarket players and bargain discs for a fiver sometimes - that Joe Public won't be...
Another point to consider - although my understanding on this is simple, and I could be wrong - is that if certain film studios choose one format and the remaining studio choose the other format, then regardless of whether you choose BluRay or HD-DVD, you'll never be able to own all the titles...
Also, games consoles are not a substitute for DVD players ;)
I haven't used the PS3, but the PS2 and Xbox are quite inferior for films once you put them on a big screen. :(
Indigo Blue is gorgeous, yes, but Black is the rarest.
Clios are better in everyway, in terms of performance and build, especially considering the current prices of PhQuicks, but the Rallye is cheaper and more fun if you're into rawness. I don't think we'll be blessed with another hatch again...
We have a Toshiba HD-DVD and a Samsung BluRay player at work.
So far I prefer the HD-DVD overall, mainly because the Samsung BluRay player is rubbish, IMO. There is a lot of detail, but motion is terrible - this is the same with 1080p screens. However, they are both early generation players, so...
They're cool, I own one, but Clios should own them
Only 103bhp, not much torque, so not too quick at higher speeds , but nippy with great handling and superb feedback. Running costs are cheap and I've never had problems with them anyway.
For me I like the looks the most though... :o...
Ph1 is suppose to be more of a driver's car, and I think it might be.
It looks either meaner and cooler or uglier, depending on your opinion.
Interior is worse though.
You can't judge by that.
If it's 340 per month but it's paid off in a year then it's good going.
But if it's over 5 years and then you've got a 10k balloon payment then it's not so good!
Car finance can sometimes make sense but it's not worth sacrificing masses of disposable income for. I...
