I'd never driven a turbocharged car prior to the Mini. I think I got caught up in the excitement of that on the test drive - coming from my FRP it seemed so much faster. Also at the time it was the newest car I'd ever owned (2 and half years old when I got it), and compared to a eleven year old...
They do sound like a 3cyl diesel on idle - nasty!
In isolation, it's not a bad car (sport mode is still good fun), but unfortunately I think it's a case of (dubious) style over substance. A Clio 197 or equivalent is a better car.
Compared to my 182, the Mini feels like it weighs a couple of tonnes. The Clio is just so immediate - whereas in the Mini you really feel that weight being lugged around. It doesn't turn in anywhere near as well as the Clio.
I think the runflats are partly responsible for the rattles.
What do you think of the turbo? Any issues with the death rattle, and has it had the fuel pump recall?
Interestingly enough, I've gone from an R56 Cooper S to a Clio :D
Hope you like it - I absolutely hated mine. The torque steer and steering kickback is horrendous, the ride unnecessarily hard, and the runflat tyres are rock hard. The interior rattles just as much as a Clio too.
Anwyay, enjoy...
I have no qualms with it being used to lower new drivers premium - that can only be a good thing. My concern is due to the success of the scheme, older and more experienced drivers will find themselves penalised .
Of more concern is having some unskilled monkey arsing round in your cars electrical system trying to install the bloody thing. I know it says in the first post they are covered under the manufacturers warranty - but really?
Oh, the other thing - to get it transferred to another vehicle? £40...

I'll post that link again - bloody IE6!http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/xcarlink-sku2298-renault-avantime-clio-espace-modus-ipod-iphone-adaptor-p-33691.html
Oh, further to my last - has anyone tried one of these? http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/xcarlink-sku2298-renault-avantime-clio-espace-modus-ipod-iphone-adaptor-p-33691.htmlIt enables the iPod to be controlled through the standard stereo (essentially it acts as a virtual CD changer). I had a...
Can anyone recommend a decent iPod compatible head unit (by compatible I mean full control of the iPod, not just an Aux/USB connection).Budget of £200 max. I'm not fussed about anything flashy, just something simple.Any ideas?
They are very marmite - most people in work seem to hate them (the best comment I've heard so far is the line painting guys went straight over the top of it whilst it was parked).
The roof stripes are a little dog eared, I'm contemplating removing them but leaving the bonnet and boot ones.
I was trying to be all arty-farty, but a complete lack of photography talent put pay to that...
Still, loving the Chavmobile (as it's been christened by work collegues and the parentals). I'll try and take some better pictures after a clean :)
