No, don't delete everything like that. Just found the link from Apple, did it with my Mac and it worked fine for me: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451 It can take quite a while though depending on what size you library is, you can't exit from it either so it has to complete.

Mac or PC? You delete the library file and it then rebuilds the library.

Force the update using the 'Check for update' button in iTunes.

They give you an estimated date when you look at your order but usually it comes before that date as they try and cover themselves.
