I looked into this and Backflash units are just as illegal as white-out camera shy number plates. Basically if youre caught you face being charged wth preverting the course of justice and theres a good chance theyll come down hard on you to make an example. Id rather be caught speeding than face...
Haha, not this again!! Some of the older members of the forum might remember a few months ago this turned into one of those 150-post epics with much heated discourse, sl*gging other forum members and general over-reacting going on!!
Anyway, heres my view:
I personally see no harm in driving...

19"s go straight on with no archwork! R-tec proved this a couple of months back. But if its lowered 18"s are a max without touching the arches. And I wouldnt like to have too many passengers! Theres so much room in the damn arches of these Clios!! I reckon even when I get my 18"s my 40mm drop...
Im ordering 18" TSW Apexs for my 1.2 16v. I took my car in and had them put on a test set of TSW Eurace 18"s to check the fit and look, and there was no scrubbage on full lock even though my cars lowered 40mm on Apex.
Im just very puzzled, as I shopped around for my renewal, tried everyone - Renault, Direct Line, Elephant, Churchill, AA, etc. etc. and Tesco were the cheapest by a lot over some of the other quotes I got (£5800 from Hill House Hammond, for example!). Im 20, have no NCD, 1 claim, quote was based...
By the way, Id recommend trying esure for a 172. I work for them part time and yesterday I sold a policy to a 31 year old male with 5 years NCD, with £250 total excess, for £245 fully comp!! Halifax is underwritten by esure and is almost as cheap. Only thing is we have really high age...

I need the advice of those great technical wizards like Slarty and other petrol-heads...
Basically, my car is suddenly (ie. today) noisy, sluggish and gently backfires when changing gear or decelerating, and its lumpy on tickover...
I was thinking the timing maybe?? Has my timing belt gone...
I think it has come down more over the last few days. Today I was parked behind a Clio the exact same model as mine but with standard ride height, and I take it all back! It looks much more than 40mm lower up against a car that hasnt been lowered! I think the problem is my tiny 14in wheels...
Cheers for the advice people. Im relieved by what Jon says, hopefully itll be the same for me. Ive spent to day ragging it up and down, driving over speedbumps, tearing round roundabouts to apply centrifugal forces, etc. etc.! I think its already made a small difference. Ive also noticed its not...
Cool. Think Ill go and get the 4 fattest people I can find and offer them a lift in my car with a bootful of ICE so I can try and bed in the springs and get it lower!!
It was front and back on springs, new shape Clio. Standard shocks, but I know a lot of people have lowered on std shocks, up to 60mm, and had no hassle. I mean, it probably does look a little lower, but its hardly noticeable, and I would have expected it to be noticeable, especially on the...
Ive just had my Clio lowered 40mm on Apex springs, however it looks and drives exactly as it did before! The guy at the garage said itll take a week for the suspension to settle down, Ive never heard anyone mention a settling in period for lowering springs, is this correct or is my car going to...
Girlracer, why not get an aftermarket exhaust for the 172 then? It must sound pretty awesome with a 2.0 lump to start with instead of my puny 1.2! If you cant get a Scorpion for the 172, K-Tecs systems sound pretty impressive? Or theres always Magnex? You would even get a good deal from that...
Ive put my 1.2 16v to test on the track and in standard guise with a tank full of optimax and no passengers but two 10" subs and a 15" one, when Id just finished running it in, it pulled 0-60 in 10.9 and a top mph of 116. Book figures for my car said 12.1 0-60 and 106 top speed so the figures...
Just got my new Scorpion Boxer s/s cat-back system fitted and my god - its loud! Makes my 1.2 sound like a flippin rally car, it roars on the over-run and gargles and pops at low revs. Unbelievably nice exhaust it is too, the fit was spot on and it looks the business. I seem to remember someone...

I bought some and its ok, but apply it in very thin coats and then repeat cos otherwise it doesnt dry underneath and flakes off instead. Also, mask any bodywork roundabout cos its nigh on impossible to avoid getting it on the paint round about fiddly places and I can assure you its not something...
Thing, is yours a 1.2 16v? Was the Scorpion you bought the one that does the 1.2 and 1.4 8v models (at £209), or the 1.6 16v one (at £260ish)? And was it just the fit that was bad or did you not like the sound/quality/power?
Was the Scorpion exhaust you were lookign at that was on back order the one designed for the 1.2/1.4 8v models or the one for the 1.6 16v?? Cos Im planning on buying a Scorpion system but want to make sure I get the right one for my 1.2 16v.

Anyone got any experience of Powerflows stainless systems? I was down chatting to my local custom shop and they said they could build me a custom stainless dual exit (one 4" pipe each side of the car) Powerflow exhaust on the car for £320. Are these good exhausts and is this a good price...
You said PK208c?? I phoned Pipercross and they told me the correct kit for the 1.2 16v engine was the PK188c, an induction kit shared with only the 172. Which one is right?
