    Back box won’t fit...

I presume you have jacked up the rear of the Clio off the ground so that the rear beam is lower? Has the torsion bar been adjusted to lower the car .....just a couple of suggestions?

To Ron 98 or not to Ron98

Bad news mate ... apparently towbars cant be fitted to the 172!! Blown that idea :). Once you get down to high twentys/low thirties mpg things will start to get a bit more interesting! Afraid I was a nancy during running in. Kept to the book till 650 miles then built up the red line 0.5K every...

    ticking noice

Check that you dont have a stone trapped in your tyre tread or worse still can be a wheel bearing on the way out! Take it the ticking get faster with speed? Could also be something in the transmission/brakes. Does the ticking get louder when sharply tuning right ot left?

    Squeaking clutch pedal

If it squeals continuously when you have the clutch engaged, more than likely a dodgy/dry clutch release bearing. If it only happens momentarily as you depress the clutch pedal, probably the pedal cable mechanical assembly. If the later, try squishing some oil into all the pedal wiggly bits (new...

    red dot discs

Ive had grooved & cross-drilled disks on past cars (MK2 16V golf & Audi S2). They certainly seem to reduce fading. Drawbacks are faster pad wear due to de-glazing effect, more brake dust and noisy under hard braking. Look the biz through the gaps in the alloys though! Probably wont regret your...

    Strut Brace

Fred, has the strut brace warranty issue been proven? Only issue I could see them screwing you on is the corrosion warranty. Interested, As Im plannning to fit K-Tec front/rear struts soon. Neil

To Ron 98 or not to Ron98

Reth, glad youre enjoying you new Cup. These engines seem to get better and better the more miles you get on the clock. Have you run it in yet or have you decided to cane it from day one?

To Ron 98 or not to Ron98

The average CR on most family saloon engines out there is 10:1 running on mild economy cam profiles. The 16V run wilder cams and the 172/Cup have wilder cams and a CR of 11:1. Hence why Reno probably recommend 98 octane fuel on the 172 over the average 95 RON. If they recommend this then Im sure...

my 172 sounds like a nova

Sorry 172man for deviating from your topic: Thought you would home in on this thread Chris ..LOL! K-Tec rukes OK! Just waiting on an O/T payment coming through from work. Hope to get my Oval with extra big central silencer very soon. I keep asking this but did you ever get your new system? Can...

my 172 sounds like a nova

Good question! Im thinking about getting a replacement zorst for my MKII. Think the guys have persuaded me to go for a K-Tec SS. Magnex certainly do a system for your model and also appear to be very good quality. http://www.magnexexhausts.comhttp://www.magnexexhausts.com Neil

my 172 sounds like a nova

So what kind of exhaust have you got ....standard mild steel or stainless? If its the former its probably rusted through and fit for the bin, the later it may have cracked and require tig welded ?

    Auto electrician needed!

http://www.fifegallery.co.uk/domains/cliosport/bulb_circuit.jpg The circuit should be calculated with a voltage of 13.8V as this is normally what your alternator regulates at when running. A 21W bulb will draw 1.52A. A 4W bulb will draw 0.29A. Therefore you require a resistor to draw 1.52A -...

    Fuel Additives

Ive used Slick 50 injector cleaner on previous cars. Maybe my imagination but thought the throttle response improved after using the tankfull with additive. Also idled a bit more smoothly. People doing short journeys are probably more likely to notice a difference due to the engines running rich...

HELP! Big wheels = cracked wing!

Are you sure that it was the tyre that cracked your wing or was it some dosey git with a shopping trolley? Funny that you should suddenly start having problems. Perhaps your standard shocks have given up the ghost and are no longer damping the movement of the wheels? If you didnt have any...

    16v hole in exhaust

Better to have your hole at the rear end ....oooerrrr! LOL;) Seriously, assuming you get the Powerflow designed correctly things should run better. Maybe you need titanium skid plates on the bottom of your exhaust! Neil

HELP! Big wheels = cracked wing!

Hi, These rubber doughnuts will screw up the handling of the car. (been there and wore the T shirt!) If the springs bottom out on these rubbers you will get some weird effects making the car very unpredictable on fast corners. They are designed as towing assisters to stop the car sagging at the...

    engine storage precautions

No probs m8. I presume the sump on your Willy is cast aluminium (he he)? If its steel just coat the inside with oil after cleaning out with detergents to keep it from rusting. Just leave the sump dry. If you put oil in there it will serve no purpose other than deteriorate.......just remember to...

First Service and a devil to work on!!

Now that cars are following more aerodynamic and predestrian safety designs the front and bonnet profiles are at steeper angles. Therefore there is much less room to get things in there. Also the Clio was never really initially designed to take a 2L lump! As Mike says the headlights are are...

    engine storage precautions

Hi Craggy, First thing is to take the plugs out and squirt some clean engine oil into the bores and turn it over by hand then put the plugs back in. Its easier to do this if you can turn it over with the starter. This will stop any moisture from rusting up the bores. Good time also to remove...

    Clio Cups Recalled

Had mine checked last month whilst in for some other warranty work. Turned out to be ok. Reference on my Job Card was OTS 0AA7 if this means anything to anybody!? Never recieved any recall notification from Reno though like they have done in the past for previous models.

    WARNING ALL CUP OWNERS !!

I reckon your wheels are stuck out there a bit toooooo much compared to the 172. Over the last few weeks my 172 sounds like its been been well sandblasted under the arches up here in Jockland with all the bad weather and grit on the road ........no chips on the rear arches though! Would be...

    EVO’s cup

I managed to burn two "dits" on the oil check after about 2000 miles. I assumed this to be normal when runnng in a new engine, till the rings bed in properly. Decided to change the oil and filter myself (Reno filter + Mobil 1 0W40). I was quite shocked to find how black the original oil was...

    Wonky Renault Sport badge

Hi Gaz2130, Seems to be a mixed bag on this one. My 172 is an Aug/Sept 2002 and as you can see above both Renault & Sport badges were stuck on (lack of holes)! I have seen other posts saying that the Clio badge is also stuck on but in my case is pinned ...weird ;)

    Wonky Renault Sport badge

Paddy, Just take the badges off. I did that a few weeks ago. They come off easily if you heat them with a hairdryer/heatgun. Looks better without them anyway in my opinion http://www.fifegallery.co.uk/domains/cliosport/172withoutrsbadge.jpg

    Starter Motor Problem

Hi Daz, I reckon your starter is goosed mate. If the solenoid is sticking it will not operate the bendix and make a good high current starting circuit. In days gone by one could buy a solenoid separately and refurb the starter yourself. Nowadays goosed components are destined for the bin. You...
