Thanks for the reply chaps, I've only just properly read these!!
I got a cup rad in the end. And the standard fan does slot into the sides as mentioned. However it doesn't seem to sit flush with the back of the rad which is annoying.
What are you doing them up to?
Should be 76NM from memory.
If they're coming loose then I'd take them off to try and establish why.
I've just got Lemforder botls and nyloc nuts on mine, with generic heavy durty washers top and bottom.
What did you work out to be the reason for the fan housing to not sit flush on the rad? I've just encountered this issue with mine now. 172 up rad and standard fan housing.
Another thread bump :-)
@adamlstr what ones did you get in the end for your cup, is there a chance you might remember any info? Trying to source some for my 172 cup rad.
Bargain that 182 was. I can't believe someone would go through all that effort with the car in saving weight, but still leave the huge lump of iron under the engine mount!
And they open as freely as normal? Last set I bought worked once the boot was open a few foot, but that first few foot had no assistance at all!
Don't happen to know the brand or seller of yours do you?
A bit more progress this weekend with the car. Lots of fiddling and faffing!
We re-made the turbo oil feed line on Friday eve as the previous one was a bit dodgy on the olive joint. Then on Sat I fed her some Millers running-in oil and we got the engine started for the first time. After our...
Thanks mate. I cant see your third boost pipe in that pic. Under the one to tthe right I asssume? Is that one tight/touching on the one visible? Specifically on the bend near the expansion tank?
Mine seem a very very snug fit and I'm looking for ways or ideas how to tweak/improve it.
Yet to secure mine all up properly, but two of the pipes are currently resting on each other.
If anyone could send me some pics of theirs so I can compare that would be extremely helpful. Ta
The seats are also finally back in for good. This took absolutely hours and hours of fiddling to get them to sit in a good position. The motorsport rails were welded in with a non standardised bolt spacing which meant it was a disaster trying to get something off the shelf to fit. So we ended...
We also secured the intercooler after blasting it out with an air line and made a start with the boost pipe kit from Engine Dynamics.
The boost pipes seem to be VERY tight under and behind the TB, potentially rubbing. Has anyone else encountered this and got any tips? We were just mock...
At the weekend Graham showed me how to change the fuel pump. It needed some small modification and a new plug was wired on.
Old pump
New pump in
Fully dressed up and ready to go back in
We then spent an age cutting and shaping the new heatshielding before finally letting it rest in place. This should have really been done before the engine was in, it would have been a hell of a lot easier. But who doesn't like a challenge
It now wraps right around the brake fluid...
The AEM wires are now nicely wired in and passing through a lovely bulk head grommet. The wires have since been put into an OEM style conduit which makes it look nice and tidy.
Graham then created a beautiful bracket for the boost solenoid and got that mock fitted.
Small update. We're getting there with the car. Some nice slow progress has been made when we've been fiddling with it.
The clutch cable bracket was trimmed and the cable was pushed back and secured to give some air space to the turbo housing. It was touching before.
