Martin's Track Clio 182 Project Thread

After lots of bashing and swearing the engine was home. We had to take off the spider to get better access but we got there in the end. The driveshafts went back on and the box was filled up with some fresh honey. I then tackled a few of the smaller jobs like the gear gaiter. Then I...

Martin's Track Clio 182 Project Thread

We then got the engine back onto the crane ready for implant. The clutch and box went back on. Then Graham sorted the loom and coolant hoses whilst I faffed about doing god knows what! The bay ready and waiting. It's been a while... "Hurry up and take the bloody photo!"

Martin's Track Clio 182 Project Thread

It was now time to start putting the turbo side of things together  The turbo log manifold went on with the standard Renault hardware. Then the sexy inconel studs from Black Cat Motorsport. Followed by a chunky copper gasket from Slide Motorsport. The turbine housing went on next...

Cup alternator and brackets back on. I gave the standard inlet I had a quick lick of paint to tidy it up a bit. Then got it fitted.

Martin's Track Clio 182 Project Thread

I thought it was about time I updated this again. Sorting out my engine was dragging on, so I picked up a freshly built standard spec engine with ARP rod bolts, ARP head studs and supertech valves. When it was home we quickly got it onto the stand and started putting all the bits back on.

    K20 powered 172

Ha! I've driven a Clio on track without assistance and it was horrid in my opinion. Let alone how s**t it is when trying to maneuver around or get onto a trailer.

    K20 powered 172

Removes one more thing which can fail and f**k up your life. No more leaks either. More access for working under the bonnet. Less weight in the bay less strain on the aux belt (if those things count). Then you can manually adjust how much assistance you like when driving. For example you...

    Treating rust under underseal

Does your car have a tiny hole in the plastic on the lip beneath the fuel filler cap? Mine does, and I'm wondering if its where the rust has started from water seaping down there... My mates 172 cup doesn't have said hole.

ASTs. Easily get a good second hand set for a grand. Wouldn't look at anything else if it were me.

    E36 3.0 ITB Race Build

Just such an epic thread full of proper skills (mechanical and driving)! You mentioned you were getting consistent oil temps <100. Is that correct? Surely you'd want the temps to be consistednt around 110-120? Also, did your mate ever find out the reason for the engine failure on his Mk1...

    Facebook Bargains/Dealer

Hence my question to the OP. If his family had a Trophy from the factory and it was a dream car then it would make much more sense to want a car of the same model. Mint cups, trophys and RB 182s are far more desirable than 197s.

Why a 197 out of interest? If it were me I'd be looking for a lovely 172 cup or racing blue 182.

    The life of... SharkyUK's Trophy

Very sad to hear you've given up with the Trophy but wow what a replacement! I'd have chopped it in myself if that was on the cards! One of my favourite drivers cars at the moment. Very good choice. Welcome to Porsche ownership. You simply cannot beat them for driving pleasures!!

Martin's Track Clio 182 Project Thread

We've salvaged lots of interior parts from a couple of different breaker cars in recently. Next was the bulkhead insulation which was in surpriginsly good nick. Then the dashboard frame. The loom was ready to mock up. Then after a lot of fiddling and cutting, the underlay and carpets...

Martin's Track Clio 182 Project Thread

Graham wasn't happy with how some of the wiring sat under the dash so we proceeded to take the entier loom out so he could work his magic. He used bits from three different looms and intergrated the aftermarket parts (oil gauge, shift light, EPAS) into the standard loom. He then put superseal...

Martin's Track Clio 182 Project Thread

I've not updated this in ages so I thought I better get something down whilst I have a chance. Anyway, after 5 years of track abuse the belts were due, and the engine was slightly low on compression so a plan was desperately needed. So after much thought and many delay tactics, Graham finally...

    MarkCup's BMW M140i

Yeah that's fair. But most of them probably don't have a clue and haven't even been made aware of the fixed prices. My dealer weren't and had to check it themselves. Or they could have just been lying to me which is also plausable too haha.
