^ I made that mistake. You see new discs need to be used gently otherwise you can warp them. HOWEVER, new pads need to be done like you said, by doing a few 30 - 0 stops and then 60 - 30 stops. Or a combination.
So that's what I did, and when I pulled back in my drive the discs were smoking...
Was that what was holding everything up! I never knew there was a crash! Took me half an hour to get out of the blue multi-story yesterday. Luckily went the back way home, not down motorway. :approve:
Well thought I'd add my experience with the pads on my RT (16v brake conversion)... basically.... I DO NOT LIKE THEM. Now before I start saying the pads are rubbish, they are not rubbish, I don't like them on my setup that's all.
I have Brembo Discs and I think the compounds must not work well...
I have done some better ones to capture the sound on my mobile. I'll try and upload them tonight and replace the original post with the video in. The quality isn't as good but the sound is much much better. :)
Thanks again.
Ok peeps,
Here's a video (may require DivX codec if it doesn't work) I made a few days after getting the system (hence the cleaness of it inside lol). A few points to note...
1. This was taken when the system was new, obviously as it wore in it became louder and deeper sound wise.
2. NO...
Aye the sump plug (don't forget the new washer) cans be bought from Renault for like £2. Halfords didn't sell it for my car when I asked. Halfords do sell the 6ltr oil containers for the old oil, think they are around £4 - £6.
Halfords also sell the Champion Filters, or their own brand, again...
Yeah 40mm should be a good compromise for the 16" alloys. Like people have said, 15" with 45 profile tyres is good for 55mm and more on the rear. But 40mm should look good.
What about a Magnex Backbox? They usually have an alright sound, but before I bought my system I had a Peco Backbox (just for some sound) and my mate has it now. It sounds ok, not too loud at all. But sound is very subjective!
I think Magnex would be a safe bet if they do a one for your car. :)
Good stuff. :) I think it's around £200 - £250 ish. But again, I'm not too sure, it depends on how complex the system is and what kind of tip you choose, etc. But at that price it's around average for a stainless steel system.
Is this Powerflow dealer any good for you,

Surely you don't have a cat atm? All you want is just a straight through system from the downpipe back? I still say go get a custom one done, then it'll be a decent fit and you can tell them how you want it to sound. None of this cutting/welding trying to bodge systems together. :)
You should be ok with the Haynes. Just make sure you have everything you need before you start...
Jack
WD40 + Tools (Hammer might be handy)
Discs + Pads + Copper Slip
Bleeding Kit + Extra Brake Fluid
Clamp for the brake hoses
Shouldn't be too difficult, just take your time.
I think it's easier to drop in the 1.8 16v lump from the Mk1 Valvers. I wouldn't bother with the RSi engine, if you were going to do it may as well put the Valver engine in for even more power. :)
I have no idea what work would be involved but I know there are plenty of people who have done...
Defo needs lowering... that should improve the looks quite drastically. May I suggest 55mm as well, due to the low pro tyres. She'll sit nice, but the ride will be a bit "bouncier" unless you uprate the shocks as well. :)
I bought PI Springs for mine and they've done the job v.well, still...
Raise the back like people have said, by about 30mm. Try to get it just slightly lower than the front, then it'll look well smart. :) That's a bit OTT for me, sorry.
Magnex... Too loud?! Are people for real. Magnex are probably one of the nicest, subtle sounding systems. People should try Ashley exhausts and then they'll see what loud is. :)
I was quoted around £150 just to do the torsion bar.... and you know what I said ;)
Seriously, doing it yourself is such a better idea as you learn and gain confidence. It's not THAT hard at all. I did mine with my dad, took about 1-2hr to get it right, then I went and helped my mate and...
I think the general feeling is that the K-Tec system are ok, but I think the general fitment can be off but I guess if you take it to a decent garage it'll be ok. I don't know what they are like sound wise though. Try doing a search see if "K-Tec Exhaust" brings up any results for you...
Looks like K-Tec are releasing a sports cat soon, as a de-cat can cause problems?! Hmm!

But that's the only one I can find. :S If you want just a de-cat (straight through pipe) then any custom exhaust place would knock one up for you I...
Lunner makes them for £30 (straight pipe). I bought the silenced one from K-Tec, it's nice. :) Not raspy like a normal de-cat it gives a much deeper tone. Still get the same good old pop and bubble. :)
Cli0, have a look here,
www.motorsportworld.co.uk
Have a look through the exhaust section and see if any come up for your model, they stock most of the makes (except Blueflame iirc). :)
Might be best going custom, if you want a full system.
Hah, woops! Posted that the wrong way around. Lol. It's 32 front and 28 rear. :o
Here's my thread where I asked at RSC, two or three people agree'd on that pressure. :)
