or learn what white balance is then you don't have to put every photo through photoshop.

    197 goes in the snow

No filters. Tamron 28-75 f2.8 I think, although it might've been Nikon 18-200VR, can't remember which I was using at the time.

    197 goes to Cumbria

I'd rather spend time driving it around the lanes than sitting at home with my sponge and duster.

    Sunday Stroll

Good pics, I'd have done a tighter crop on the first one to lose the bit were it looks like the stone wall ends and a fence begins but that's a personal preference.

Anyone used Sigma 24-70mm DG Macro?

Tamron 28-75 f2.8 is pretty good, similar price to the Sigma one I think.

    New to photography...Tips???

Don't believe the camera manufacturer hype, more megapixels does not mean a better camera or better quality images.... 3.1 sharp megapixels are better than 10.2 blurred ones! Read the guide at the top of the page and the manual and then practice lots!

What the **** am i doing wrong with these photos?

standing too close to the car? lenses have a minimum focus distance, might be too close if it doesn't have a macro feature.
  16. GaryS

Would you Pros recommend this as a step in the right direction?

I agree with the above, especially if you are planning on shooting motorsport.

    Davyhulme Nature Reserve (Manchester)

Thanks, it's not too far away, I'll maybe have a trip there with someone I've worked with in Warrington. The jetty looks a good spot.

    A few from yesterday

Yes it is the same bridge but one has the little waterfall bit on and one doesn't. I liked both so stuck them both on here. There's no point having 18Gb of memory and taking one view of each scene :)

    Davyhulme Nature Reserve (Manchester)

Nice pics, I like the reflection of the tree one best.

    197 goes to Yorkshire (again)

Ye olde Yorkshire bridges weren't designed for 197s... I got over this with around 2cm either side of each wing mirror

It's a shadow of a tree, I thought about moving the car but decided it looked quite good!

    197 goes to Yorkshire (again)

I had a photo job to do in Bentham today so it would've been rude not to have a little drive around the Dales roads while I was there :) Apologies for the dirty ass :o

Little photography project anyone can try...

I've never done drip shots before, here's two efforts... I was trying to get the water in the centre of the shadow of the spoon in the first one but failed :o

Anyone on here use a flash?

Yes, just get a wireless transmitter/receiver. Plenty of HK shops sell them for around £10-£15. On some Nikon's you can use the pop-up flash to trigger off-camera flash but I don't think the D40 has that facility? Check your menu to see if there is a Commander mode for the pop-up flash to make...
  29. GaryS

Anyone on here use a flash?

I use a SB600 and 800 both on and off the camera. You can stick a wireless transmitter on the hotshoe to trigger them which is what the photographer at the graduation will've been doing. I expect he was using a studio flash rather than a SB600/800 type flash?

    A few landscape shots...

I've got photoshop but I don't use it, mainly because I haven't a clue how to :o I'll have a look and suss it out. (I manually typed a space in on the pic above)
