for some rather fortunate reason i have a couple of lengths of 2x4 in the boot. think i was using them to hold the window up while waiting for a new window motor. and robbing grannies of course.
at least i know where to look now, i'll give it a smack a bit later, thanks
Car won't start :(
It's been fine for about four journeys since picking it up.
I can hear the starter solenoid clicking, and it clicks repeatedly if i keep the key held on, but it's not turning the motor.
I initially thought it was the battery, but it won't jump start either. Couldn't try bump...
garage is gonna check the scrap bin to see if it's still there. apparently there's a hole in the casing where the diff caught it. still worth anything? :)
i prob would have in the summer, but don't have a garage to work in so not too fussed about sitting in the garden in this weather with a gearbox :)
i've noticed it's not as smooth going into 3rd and 4th, almost like you push it into gear and the lever moves to the right a bit, like the...
car back on the road :-)
rebuilt gearbox off tony - £250
clutch off andyrg - £45

thanks to tony for meeting up with me at 6am sunday morning just off the m3 to trade gearbox for some rather crisp notes :)
and to andy for the rather well priced clutch :)
the garage have said they think the lower and upper gearbox mounts are ok. should i just get them replaced anyway while...
just been speaking to agency transmissions, they said the likely problem is that the circlip has popped. if i get another box, am i gonna have the same problem months down the road?
hi, gearbox is currently out of the car as it's busted. i've got a replacement on it's way. is there anything i should look at replacing while the box is out? i've got clutch and bearing. anything else?
cheers
that sounds uber perfect, but i've already bought one for £150 delivered from ebay. i would have taken that off your hands too. 0 miles. just sounds awesome. if this one from ebay ends up knackered i'll give you a shout.
very kind of you- that's a great offer of help! i think if it had been before i got it in the garage i would have defo taken you up, but labour at garage to this point is £160, plus recovery back to mine £30, cash for you say £100 plus £20 petrol, that's around £310 fitting and the garage...
i had thought about doing it myself. i can do most things, just the gearbox/subframe combo freaked me a bit :) you make a very tempting offer!
car is currently in garage awaiting instruction. where abouts are you based?
close, farnborough, hampshire.
i thought the phase 2 had closer ratios on their gearbox to compensate for the extra weight?
although i wouldn't be too fussed with longer gearing, as long as the box fitted and worked the speedo
