What tool to remove tie rod? tried spanner and mole grips

got it done. a combination of leaning on the tie rod so as to apply pressure to the bolt, and wiggling the bolt back and forth which seemed to free it up a bit.

What tool to remove tie rod? tried spanner and mole grips

i managed to crack the bolt but its not getting any looser. i assume its a normal thread in at that it comes off anti-clockwise? it feels like whatever the tie rod bolt is in is rotating with the tie rod. is this possible?

URGENT HELP!! new track rods are shorter than old ones, is 20mm thread in the end ok?

sorry for posting in the wrong forum but need some quick help! hi, just trying to fit new track rods (the inner bit, not the ends) and the supplied ones are 301mm compared with the old ones that are 316mm. this means i have 20mm of thread going into the end compared with 35mm on the olds ones-...

What tool to remove tie rod? tried spanner and mole grips

got some replacement items now. they need a 32mm spanner. i hope the old ones are 32 as well, not too thrilled with the idea of having to buy two large spanners for effectively a one off job.

Looking for this guy, or his car

http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=1361238818 might be worth a message. looks like this guy has a saxo now and last car was 306, but at least it's french. might be from swindon area, which tallys up with the wiltshire location for the clio rsi.

What tool to remove tie rod? tried spanner and mole grips

adjustable spanner is too wide and can't get into the slot, there's only about 5mm or so to slot onto. would a boa strap wrench work around the smooth bit of the bolt? http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00096JDKS/?tag=cliospnet01-21 i read that renault have a specialist tool to hold the rack so...

Is my track rod end in need of replacement? (video included)

i've got it in bits at the moment, i can't tell if the faint knocking noise i get with my hands at 9 & 3 is the top mount or the track rod. would it even be the top mount?
  15. daddycool

What is adjusted when getting the tracking done?

i think there's movement. its not a definite knocking movement like i had with the track ends. to be honest i can't tell if it's just bending and returning to shape. could a dodgy top mount be causing the vertical movement (hands at 12 and 6)?

    serious HELP needed!

just one thing, if you buy a barrel etc from somewhere that needs posting, get it posted to a friends address, or workplace if you dont drive to work. may seem over cautious but the last thing you want is someone turning up at your house in the middle of the night with an identical key...

    Good deal?

same scenario as me. i got my 52 plate cup with 75k on the clock for £1950. couple of things but nothing major (scrape on left side of front bumper, no service history) but good condition. i got it cheap as driver window wasn't working and the infamous hazard lights not turning off, but i sorted...

What is adjusted when getting the tracking done?

am i looking for vertical or horizontal play? sorry to be a spanner, i've had a look before with a bar but without knowing what to expect i didn't know where to apply the leverage. or do i whack a bar directly above the ball joint and lever there?

Is my track rod end in need of replacement? (video included)

replaced them both in the end as the driver side bolt on the track rod end was quite loose. still got play on both sides though. when i had the track rod ends off and the track rods in my hand, there wasn't any friction when wiggling them around or turning them- should i expect some friction...

What is adjusted when getting the tracking done?

bushes, forgot about those. there is no play in the wheels when i hold the wheel at 12 and 6 o clock. would this rule out the ball joints or should i take them off and inspect them?

What is adjusted when getting the tracking done?

car's a bit twitchy when hitting uneven road/ small bumps. i know the tracking needs doing, but no point doing it yet if i then have to replace something that they adjust, only to get it tracked again. i replaced two track rod ends today as they were worn and there was play in the wheels, but...
