yeah i'll take the clutch, assume it's the same clutch for 172 cup and 172. cheers.
just seen a box for £250 so i've PM'd the lad.
i do have my reservations about using a 2nd hand gearbox as what if it goes the same way as the last one, but that's the chance you take to save a couple of...
i'm sad :(
it needs a new gearbox. chap said the differential has gone. have been quoted £700 for a box from their supplier, £300 + vat to fit, then obviously cost of clutch. ouch.
so, can i get a cheaper box and what should i be looking for? it's a cup, i think it needs something different to...
well, car has been recovered to garage. rac patrol said it was clutch, they mentioned something specific about reverse gear. will report back once garage have called, probably tuesday.
no drive in any gears. don't think it's clutch, else i wouldn't be able to just put it into 1st and 2nd with engine running. unless the clutch has welded to the flywheel (???) and it's always engaged.
it's going into local garage tomorrow. if they have to drop the box out i'll get the clutch...
hi, does anyone have a pic of clio gearbox linkage? i can't get a gear at the moment (that's another thread) and the linkage feels a bit loose when you get under the car and wiggle it. would be good to see if there is anything missing from mine.
(it's a 172 cup, don't know if that makes a...
is that the spring that forces it back into neutral/3rd/4th alignment? right at the end of the linkage just before everything disappears into the gearbox? if so then that seems to be doing it's job, the linkage goes up and down at the spring and resets itself if i knock it out of gear.
unless...
i'll add that when i'm changing gear (either with the gearstick or directly with the linkage) it's moving like it should and slotting into position. the linkage feels a tad looser than it should but what i can see from under the car looks tight.
i can put it into 1st and 2nd with the engine running and clutch out. if i try and put it into 3rd, 4th or 5th it starts to grind with the clutch out. when its in gear the speedo goes up but no drive. it seems like something inside the gearbox isn't selecting a gear. when its in gear, the speedo...
pulling out of a junction today i changed into second and had no drive. pulled over and i can't select any gears. i got under the car and moved the linkage around on the gearbox end (not the gear stick end) and it feels very loose. is there anything obvious i can check or is it likely something...
is it a bad mis-fire? if its just not very smooth, there's a few threads on the subject, lots of people experience it, it's quite common. i get it for about 1-2 mins in the morning. its not a bad mis-fire but its definitely not smooth!
could someone send me their PSN ID (your ps3 user name) so i can play the racer track? thanks :o
(my psn buddies prefer their shoot em ups)
edit: if you want to PM me, i'll message you back with my psn id, cheers
interesting that you got good results from replacing the lower gearbox mount. many say not to bother replacing this, but i might look into it if you got positive results.
the knocking is the manifold hitting the subframe. have a look down the back of your engine and you will see the manifold just above the subframe, try and get a finger between the joint and the subframe- bet you can't!!
replacing the dogbone bush won't necessarily fix it. i actually got this...
its worth mentioning that i get the same amount of play if i hold the bottom of the wheel and the suspension near the top. would this rule out wheel bearing?
i fitted new ball joints last weekend along with new track rods and track rod ends, and the knocking when hitting bumps went away. for about three days. everything is still tight, but now there is vertical play again on the driver side wheel. assuming the ball joint hasn't already died, would...
UCH is the control box for most of the electronic gubbins in your car. it might be this, but that's starting with the most expensive part and working back, which isn't the best way forward. unless it's under warranty of course.
when my hazards kept coming on it turned out to be water had got in...
sweet..

its even got turinis and no visible exhaust!
thanks for that. i was gonna save a bit of cash and get one from ebay for a fiver, but having read that these can break, sometimes after a single use, i think i'll get one from halfords, at least i can keep taking it back if i keep breaking it.
hi, my scissor ball joint separator wont fit, so i need to get myself a fork shaped one. does anyone know what width i should get (not at home to measure) as there is a few different sizes.
also, which is better- a shorter one that you smack with a hammer, or a longer (+ expensive) one that you...
gally- check strap, cool, at least i have a name now.
turkish- i'll bear in mind that they may be s**t to start with.
darren s- i know what you mean about passengers. my best mates a door slammer.
i guess i could just drop a bit of rain water onto the joints, let it rust it up a bit...
