I had same problem, The motor factor cables where shite fit any way. £59 from Renault and 30 mins to fit, Remove heat shield-slacken cable adjuster-remove old cables-fit new ones-adjust cables-refit heatshield= Done!
I just made up a second mount on the other side of the back box and bolted it to the spare wheel well works a treat and exhaust never hangs down anymore.
Ah thats great thanks just one more silly question, Which wire is which(colours i mean) on the laguna alternator?.
From your desc i make it the yellow = 12v supply green = dash wire.
Got the whole lot for £15 down the local scrappy so pretty happy with that just hope the alternator is a good...
I replaced mine last month on my phase 1 after much messing about with cables from local motor factor that didn't fit!! i ended up getting them from Renault.
Was £60 for the 2.
I have something similar but mine is more a loss of power feels like fuel starvation or similar, I also have a decat and the problem dissapears when the car is hot. Let me know if you find out anything.
P.s i fitted a new lambda when the decat was fitted.

Ok went and got the parts at the weekend is this all i need below for the conversion and which wire does what on the alternator below. It has 2 small wire and the positive battery wire, also noticed a spade connector in the middle?.
