It's an early ph2 172 so could it be that they came slightly differently?

This makes me feel better, I think I paid over the odds for my 88k flamer with more dents than a bean tin and minimal/questionable history. Mostly dent free, new cup suspension and new belts etc now so maybe it's worth what I paid for it after all that

Its smooth, it runs on the back of the belt rather than the grooved side. I still think it looks like the idler and where they sit they are more prone to getting road spray etc
