If it isn't using water i very much doubt the gasket has gone.
Very usual for the 1.2 to have a creamy cap, also you will always have pressure when you take the top off to an extent after driving ( you shouldn't do it, water is under pressure as it boil's at a higher temp, opening it can cause...
Brakes imo are the biggie, pins stick / seize and nipples are a pain in the arse for shearing! imo, strip, clean and bleed the brakes every service to solve all them problems.

Thought i should update this a little bit!
I got it in to start removing the bodies, and it had a small lifeline.....
Removed the bodies and cams, put it back to standard engine wise.
12 months MOT and 6 months tax as of the start of feb, done a couple of hundred miles and all good! :)

^ no, water pumps are hard wearing and don't generally cause a prob. We always check them, but unless the customer asks it isn't changed.
Driven by the aux belt, done a 225 today, thats driven by the cambelt so changed that with the belt kit. :)
