As is traditional when I do something on my cars I've made a mistake somewhere along the line. Basically swapped out the old wheel for a replacement 172 with intact thumb grips.
When I got to the point of pulling the old wheel off the spindle it was a bit of a struggle and when it popped off a...
Well mines borked and the way it was shown to me was you warm the engine up and rev the engine back and forth from below 1800 rpm to above which is the 'interface' between where the dephaser cuts in and out (i'm sure someone can explain that better). With the hood up if the dephaser is starting...
Was up at JMS on Wednesday and they said 5w 40 fully synth and nothing else. 10w 40 semi ends up boogaring your dephaser apparently. As above Renault don't reccomend 0w so stick with 5w 40.
Well the oil pressure and stop lights came on again this morning so decided to run it into the dealership at lunchtime but after a couple of miles the lights went off then on again and then off and stayed off for about another 8miles until I stopped. Feels like a dodgy sensor to me, if the pump...
Cheers mate, no nothing flashing at all. Just held the reset stalk down when turning the ignition on. Oil ok popped up as normal and then on holding down the reset it brings up the oil status thing which showed the oil as full.
I probably do have a bit too much oil in there now, no smoke though...
Some advice on this much appreciated.
Saturday driving in the pissing rain and oil warning light came on. Then after a few miles went off again. Check at start up on the trip computer thing which showed all ooo's which means full. Drove it again in the dry and no lights so read a couple of...
Cheers for the advice but I think if you saw the lights you'd understand I'm not mistaking crazing for scratch marks. I'll have to take some pics when it stops raining.
Just to say my headlights are/were about 400 times worse than in the pics at the start of the post. They had gone a horrible browny green in places (this is how I got the car). Used the guide in the guides section today and they look much better after 5mins with 600 grit followed by 1200 and...
Hi
Have just got a 172 with aircon and it doesn't seem to be any colder than the climate control (probably needs regassing) but I am also in need of an Aux belt change in the next 1k miles (cam is ok for another 20/30k) and given the price difference between the cup alternator belt change and...
AP Developments http://www.ap-developments.com/ listed in the traders section are up Swansea way. Had a price in the region of £300 plus vat for a cam belt change (and 195 plus vat for the aux) based on a 172 with air con. Would be cheaper if you've got a cup. Not sure whether if you have a...
Ooo one thing which I'm sure you'll have checked but is probably worth mentioning. With 70k on the clock has it hads its 72k service and cam belt done? Only mention it as you don't want that snapping just after you've bought it!
Hi Juude looks like a nice motor. Just got a 172 in flame red myself a couple of weeks back and I would love to know what you used to sort those lights out. Mine are shocking and I had been looking at replacing them but if theres a product that can bring them up like yours I'd love to know what...
Na not a peep out of the engine before hand was running a treat even in the cold weather. The prat at kwik fit was like oh there's insufficient support of the exhaust (which they fitted 18months ago) so I jumped in thnking I'd baz it home sort the problems out and bobs your uncle. Literally had...
Hi
Not entirely sure to be honest. The pulley is completely loose and sideways danny suggested the screws may have vibrated loose from the pulley hence the pulley is just banging around in there. Like you say I'm assuming the best way to sort it is a new pump which will include the pulley...
Hi
Have reposted this as originally thought it was the timing belt (doh).
Pictures attached but basically having looked under the car the wheel which according to the Haynes manual is the wheel attached to the power steering pump is completely loose. I can't see whether it's snapped off or...
Cheers for all the responses. Right have been under the car and had a proper look now and one of the wheels the belt goes round has either sheered off or come out of it's mounting. Looking at the diags in the haynes manual it's the power steering pump
Have attached pics to show the "wheel" in...
1 . Phew You've made my day, thank christ for that. So with a new Aux belt i don't need any special gear just the belt and looking at the haynes (whichj I should have looked at more carefully before panicking) should really get a proper garage to check the tension on it?
2. Yeah I know, not...
Just took car into Kwik fit for an MOT and it failed, minor bits, insufficiently supported rear exhaust, offside coil spring incomplete and lambda playing up. Wasn't too happy with this as kwikfit fit put the exhaust on about 2 yrs ago and I was under the car yesterday changing the oil and...
Yeah fair play to the cops that's some good work. Doesn't change the fact the window and now the regulator needed mending but there is a certain satisfaction the bugger is in a cold cell hopefully with some huge bloke making his life unpleasant
Way hey the cops rang today at long last and: one of the two other cars near mine which also got done was only a police decoy/entrapment car. The scum bag stole a sat nav with a tracker in it so they just tracked him back to his place, went round his place and arrested the sod and he still had...
Cheers fella, managed to source a window on parts gateway for £20 so it's all good. Thanks for the offer though.
Glad I didn't take a punt on a 5 door window!! That would have been a frustrating exercise.
CCTV covering the enterance I think but still waiting for the cops to call me back and...
Parked in a supposedly 24 hour manned NCP on Saturday in Southwark and some scum bag did my car and the two next to it. No security/parking guy anywhere to be seen and paid £18 for the privilege of having parked my car there. May as well have left it in the f**king street.
I'm going to replace...
Have just managed to very simply sort out what I thought was going to be either very complicated or very expensive. So I thought I would chuck it up on here incase anyone else has the same problem sometime.
Basically if you are as clumsy as me and somehow manage to let something unfreindly...
I've got an 8v 1.4i mk2 and fitted a k&n 57i last week (with cod air feed from gril on the drivers side) and am well pleased with it. Noise wise it sounds the nuts. I keep turning the stereo off to be able to hear it properly.
Gains wise I'd read enough threads on here to expect absolutely sod...
