the oil gauge, one on the far left, is oil level indicator. as you start up it tells you how much oil youve got but falls after a while as oil is being pumped through the engine. dont worry its normal.
your best bet is go to a dealer with a cd of what you listen to. put it in as many set up as they have got and listen, buy which ever sounds best to you.
ive done installs worth thousands and some that cost hundreds and unless your going flatlining in sq competions your average listener cant...
power steering on standard engine is mostly belt driven, so as its been mentioned you need a electric one. you will also have to change engine mounts on a 5 turbo lump as the original ones hit the rack. its a lot of work.
440 lump isnt that tunable compared to 5 turbo lump. and mine has 5 turbo lump and ive got power steering. its a bugger to do, but its got it. go for the turbo not n/a
go for dynamat or dynamat extreme, brown bread is lighter but its complete sh*t, the only reason my car has 700 odd quids worth is that its my demo car. well see how it sounds and go from there if you want too?
to get something hpid costs around 20-25 quid, to get full report get the chassis number as well, if he wont give it to you dont buy it. the only problem with hpi is that if the car has been rebuilt and not written off some insurance companies dont log it so you may not know from report. only...
if you wanna go big, ive seen a 16v on 19". it looked awesome. that was a load of work getting suspension work made for it, but it has been done. but as you say if its going for a respray, ideal time to do it. good luck with it.
does it do it when you use the rear washer jet? if so the pipe feeding the washer has split, this happened to mine took feckin ages to find out what it was, if not check rear window surround for tears.
