Is the PSU good enough? How many watts how many amps on the rails? It is all well and good thinking you have stuff that will work but bit more to it than that especially if it is an older PSU.

To be fair the 775 based CPU's are still very good. I have my main i7 rig for gaming but I have my Q6600 rig at my other home and that has a 560 TI in it. Still runs everything you can throw at it.

I have the PX5's and they don't seem that bad on batteries. Reckon the set that is in them now have had a good 10 hours or so. They are bigger with them using AA batteries but the PX5 was bought as it works for my Xbox, PC and PS3. Bluetooth enabled headset.

It has better tessellation and if a title makes heavy use of it then it is better. However it's more of a fix than a new card. So between having a single 6970 or two 5870's the 5870's come out on top easily. Next gen will likely see a single card being as quick as two of the older ones...

Got to keep in mind the 6870 isn't as fast as the 5870. And the 6970 is only slightly faster than the 5870. It wasn't a huge upgrade. Not worth moving up from a 5870 to a 6000 series. Very very little between them. In some games it is less than 3FPS others you might gain 10fps. But a 2nd 5870...

See I wonder if the textures issues are maybe down to a corrupt download of the textures from steam. I got a retail copy so came on 3 DVD's. No issues with textures like that in anyway. Might be worth forcing a recheck on your rage files in steam.

Depends, personally not blown away by any screen in the MB range. But the 13" pro screen is just low resolution. Which can be annoying.

In 13" better screen, SSD. But the 13" with an SSD added later on will be faster. Just not as good a screen.
