Without knowing what your actually running how can I suggest a possible power source???
Simply check all your items for onboard fusing, as an example;
head unit = 10amps
mono amp = 100amps
4ch amp = 60amps
Total max draw 170amps
playing 0dB test tones at full tilt = 170amps, (55ah batt = not...
Have you got battery specs??
what exactly will you be running??
what will you be playing??
how loud will it be playing??
Off one yellowtop I can run mine at lowish volume, (loud enough for listening whilst hanging about car parks etc etc), playing music for around 2hrs....Then I need to run...
Thats why you should always get stone chips repaired in the front screen....
Ain't no way 1k & 1 15" Kicker L7 going to burst a front screen without prior damage.....
It's a Cavalier hatch mate....
The boot has gone through a few upgrades over the past few months, thats why it looks like a mess, here's how it started out....
with new mono amp....(dual power & earths look messy)....
then new subs, simply chucked in for now....
new subs needed new...
Current setup
going from 2 X GTi 12" subs sealed, to 3 X GTi 12" subs ported & tuned at 35hz.....just struggling to get all the subs the same distance from the port to ensure equal loading.....
Who is that directed at mate, the OP or me???
As a point of interest I would like to know why most peoples first reaction is to say, "you don't want/need rear speakers"....
Each system should be built to suit the main listener/owner....if he/she desires rear speakers, then I say go ahead, it's...
It actually performs very well on music, gives a nice rounded output and can take some decent power....When you consider the cost, (90 quid), it's a decent throw in & play ported enclosure, with a fairly decent resale value....
I've used 3 now, all paired up with the new 4ch JBL amp previously...
Yes, once you get below around 80hz direction does become difficult to pick out.....But were not talking about direction, were talking about distance & quality.....if you have a sub in your car, walk around it whilst its playing, you will hear the difference for yourself....
OK, placement in comparrison to listening position does indeed make a difference..... sub firing direction also makes a difference.... if using a ported enclosure, port firing direction also makes a difference.... if using a ported enclosure lying flat firing horizontally, then the port...
Quality over quantity.... I'd go NEW... 1, JBL 4 channel amp 2, DLS front components 3, JBL ported GT5 enclosure, (currently only available through Motorworld at £89.99)... 4, Copious amounts of sound deadening... JBL 4ch amp DLS 6 1/2 slimline conps or the 5 1/4 equivalants...
Not tried this particular one.... I have tried & used a few from Motorworld, but that enclosure uses the GT5 12" sub.... Here's a linky to a thread showing the ones available.... May be worth popping into your local branch and checking if they have one on demo...
Have you heard any aftermarket installs in a Clio??
You should get out and try to hook up with some like minded souls and try to listen to a few different setups....this will help you decide which type you prefer....
A basic setup would be;
upgraded front components
single sub in a pre-fab...
A large factor is the price of repair.....
Astra would be much cheaper to repair if both cars suffered similar damage.....
Edit----And it's not French.....
I don't own a Clio mate, simply select a location that the speakers will fit into & perform correctly from....
could be, rear quarters, rear doors, parcel shelf etc etc....
If your going for true HI FI sound reproduction, (comp class sound quality), then the true purpose of rear speakers is simply rear fill, (used to imitate reflection from the main sound stage up front), so should be placed in the listening area not the boot, (extremely hard to get right).....
If...
There is no 'correct' place to mount a tweeter, they should be fitted to suit the owners/listeners tastes....
In fact, if you really wish to get picky, the tweeter should be mounted as close as possible to the mid range speaker, (some manufacturers stipulate 12" or less)....
Music is a form of...
The GTO75.4 amp isn't really suitable for Tri-mode running....(thats true Tri-mode, 1 set of stereo full range speakers and a sub bridged off the same two channels).....
With regards your components and sub choice;
I reckon your components will tend to drown out your sub, (easily sorted by...
Have you tried registering on Talk Audio and asking there???
Without knowing what you currently have fitted, or what your trying to achieve, I can't offer any advice other than as above....
You could try visiting a few local meets and grabbing a listen to a few different setups, this will...
More power = more output, with less chance of 'clip', (assuming amp is correctly setup)....
Once the amp is in use I reckon your installation will become your next stumbling block.....nothing worse than resonating panels sapping output and screwing with sound quality.....
I would recommend...
OK, done a basic pic showing a 'SAFE' way to relocate the battery....
the RED lines coming from the fused block are to supply current battery lives.....
the EARTH distribution is simply to neaten up your current battery earth connections.....
In the pic the ALT charge cable is protected by a...
Oh dear, hope you carry an extinguisher.....
you need to remember current is flowing from two directions, when starting the current comes from the battery, whilst running the current flows to the battery.....This means the cable should be fused at its power source, (the cable has a source at...
