Hm. It does sound and look b****cks. Ruins the car and the girlfriend gets annoyed by it. Cheapest place to buy a standard exhaust? I live about 2 minutes drive from a GSF but they don't stock them.
I only bought my 172 last week and I've been doing a few bits here and there to tidy up, currently sorting a few stone chips out and just replaced my filthy pollen filter.
Another thing that is annoying me is how loud the exhaust is, it isn't leaking either. Does anyone recognize it?
This is really easy on a 206. I remember just popping one of the opening rear windows in about 2 minutes and then using a long stick. I nearly got an erection from the excitement of breaking into a car, even thought it was my own. :o
I had the diff shatter in my 206 GTi and the box got rebuilt, I have to say it came back like brand new. And that was from a place that used 2nd bits to rebuild it. It was literally as tight as a drum, I think you'll probably be fine.
Burning could be anything, I mean I had a pencil coil go on a 1.4 16v and it smelt of burning. The burning could be unburnt fuel going into the CAT for example.
Open the bonnet, start the engine and unplug each injector one at a time. If it runs worse then it's not that one, if it runs better than you've found your dodgy one.
Maybe not... but I had exactly same issue on my 206 GTi and it was the EGR valve. Fixed it straight away. It'd be the first thing I'd try if it has one.
Sod paying for one of these. I made my own with a PowerFlex bush, a stanley knife to cut out the old one, a g-clamp to push the new one in and some big zip-ties to make sure it'll never move.
