I agree, don't just try it because you keep seeing it mentioned.
Try Linux because you want to replace Windows.
A happy Windows user won't want to put any effort in, they just want to see what the fuss is about.
If you choose Ubuntu to try then I can give you the Ubuntu Bible in PDF format. Just let me know and I'll upload it for you. It's 22MB zipped and 44MB unzipped.
If you're worried about your forum then I can give you an idea of mine.
Last month I had 649787 hits and used 1.48Gb bandwidth
I have a 20Gb / month limit.
Bandwidth isn't just used up by just users though, it's anyone at all who visits the forum.
Seen enough posts about it yeah, but luckily life isn't that difficult for me, stuff just works :rasp:
I guess I unconsciously built a Linux friendly system, years before even trying Linux!
I'd side with Adams_16v on this, the open source forums have come along way, SMF especially.
If you haven't already Daz, then SMF is worth a play just to see what's on offer now. Not suggesting Cliosport consider changing as that would be a pain in the arse but if money ever became an issue...
I guess you never shut down? I don't think XP would allow you to boot with 0 space left, may be wrong though.
I assume you've cleared out all temporary files? search for *.tmp also check the temporary file directory.
Clear out internet temporary files (cache) - you can do this via your...
Isn't much incentive to join to be honest.
Other forums cover your categories.
It's not easy getting members unless you are specialist e.g. Clio owners
Ah in that case all you need to do is...
Admin -> Server Settings -> Forum Title
No need to manually edit any files for that :)
Like your new theme! If you want to replace SMF Millenium then that's a graphic you will need to edit. (/Themes/2k/images/img/topl.jpg)
Do you mean theme SMF or customise a theme?
To theme it all you do is download the one you want, upload it and select it.
Customising depends on the theme, some are really simple and some take a bit of head scratching.
Also, if you use TP as well as SMF then you need to look at TP themes as...
Just a suggestion, but unless you are planning on adding more categories, I would group your existing ones into one table as it looks a bit busy at the moment.
Take a look at themes as well, whislt the default is very practical, it's a tad dull.
Here's a snapshot of the forum I run for my...
Are you getting an error?
MySQL Servername - I used "localhost"
I assume you have setup a user and database already and aren't just putting what you like in the other fields?
I'd recommend SMF over any of the other free ones.

If you use Tiny Portal as well you might be able to integrate your website which is what I did.

Did you download it or get it on DVD?
16 hours can't be right. Should just be a case of partiton and install which would probably take somewhere between 20 and 40 mins I would have thought.

Because it's shiny and new, I guess it's a bit like going from a 182 to a 197. 182 has probably done you well and there's nothing wrong with it but the 197 is newer.
Edit: Thanks Tom ;)
Surprised no-one has brought this up, or if they have I can't see it.

Dell is going to lead, do you think others will follow?
Will you be buying a machine with Linux pre-installed?
I bet MS will be watching what happens closely!
The best thing about firefox is adblock plus. (you have to install it separately, but it's quick and easy)
It eliminates pop-up adverts and even adverts within webpages.
