I was the same at 17 mate but now that I am 18 once I have had my license a year (early december) my quotes cut from £1700 for a 1.4RT to £700 or only £1000 TPFT for a valver with bell.co.uk. I just can't find anywhere that will come close to bell for a quote at the moment.
lol, or that. That would be a lot better as it would mean that it wouldn't be so costly. If it's buckled it would be pretty clear I would think if you were to remove the wheel so if it's not buckled then the balancing is probably out.
I have just had this with my own car. I was worried that...
Probably buckled the wheels. I would get out there and take photos asap if they are still doing the same so that you have some evidence to show the council as you can try and claim back the cost of the new wheels/fixing the old wheels and take a ruler with you to put next to the "curb" so that...
I would say definately any leaks, wheel bearings and rust around the arches. As has been said they can all be sorted but can be used as bargaining points.
I asked this a while ago there seemed to be mixed opinions (I'll try and find the post.) A lot of people seemed to think that as long as the strut to hub bolt spacing was the same (54mm) then it would work fine. I know that the springs are definately intechangeable (i.e. 16v springs will go on...
lol, do it!!!!! and then make us try and find the link.
any chance of anyone doing a quick photoshop of it a bit lower? and no photoshops of bin laden etc ;)
How do you like my new 4x4? :o
I wasn't planning on fitting my alloys till I had lowered my car but because of other problems I had to fit them before so that I could check if the cause of my problem was my wheels. I'll fit the lowering springs and adjust the torsion bar as soon as I...
You don't need to get rid of your ariel mate. That would probably make it worse tbh as you would have a hole to fill in. What to do is put some silicon sealant around the ariel and that should sort it I think.
Thanks mate. Do you know if it's a tapered bearing??
It's just because I don't have a torque wrench that can go up to that sort of torque and the garage was saying that as long as it's not a tapered bearing then I should just tighten is as much as it will go.
You'll probably have some trouble with 17's on a non 16v Mk1 if it's lowered at all. TBH I would say to go for 15's or 16's at most as 17's will kill any sort of performance you may have already.
I've just come off the phone to a garage and the guy said that I should just tighten it up as tight as possible and that would be OK.
He said the only time that wouldn't be the case would be if it was a tapered bearing. He checked and said that he didn't think the clios was a tapered...
I just don't want to risk f**king anything good and proper as I only have a torque wrench up to 110Nm so I can even really guess at how tight it should be. I'll try and get it tightened properly by a garage tomorrow.
As I say I have an aftermarket exhaust fitted and some alloys and lowering spring in the garage but tbh I think I would get more money for the car by selling it as standard and then selling the other things seperately.
Anyone else got any opinions on how much it would be worth roughly??
Don't think I can get a hold of a torque wrench that will go to that sort of torque actually without buying one which I don't want to do for just this one job.
Do you reckon a local garage would probably tighten it to the correct torque for a few quid?
Who was that directed to???? (crosses fingers it's not me)
I hope it's not me as I couldn't afford a new clutch, LOL. The noise has been there for a while but my clutch feels fine and I don't really have any problems with it.
Thanks. What exactly is the thrust bearing??
How easy/costly is it to replace and is it something I could probably do myself?
Should I get it changed asap or will it be OK to run it like that for a while?
