LOL, that's what I'm trying to work out mate and it won't really be too much. I'm trying to work out how much of a difference it would be compared to my current situation with the 1.4RT and I'm not sure if it would be that much worse.
Yeah sorry mate I wasn't really thinking properly when I replied. I was just thinking of you saying the noise was like something ubbing on the disc which could have been the bearing but if it's a squeak then I would imagine it'll be something else.
I'm not sure if that's what causing it mate but if the gaitor has split I would get it replaced as it will cause you problems. I would imagine the likely hood is that it is the cause of your problem but someone with a bit more knowledge will be able to confirm this I'm sure.
I am now seriously considering getting valver but I need to work out if I can afford it TBH. I was just wondering what they are like in terms of fuel economy and things.
I currently own a Mk1 1.4RT. What has anyone else who has moved up to a Clio 16v from 1 1.4RT found the running costs to...
I am looking at a Clio 16v which, from the description I've been given, seems to be in good condition but I'm too far away from it to just go down for a look - I would only be able to go down when actually buying.
What I was wondering is if there are any nice Cliosporters in the Durham area...
Usually I would agree mate but I'm not too sure if I can afford the insurance I have been quoted at the minute so it would be a big help if this reduced the cost.
I am looking at buying a car which has a Cat-1 Thatchem approved alarm fitted and I was just wondering how much I could expect to save on my insurance with this? Quotes without the alarm are in the region of £950 for 10 months TPFT.
Thanks.
I don't know TBH mate - I'm guessing it's teh release bearing on the clutch?
Basically when I am changing gears I sometimes get a screeching sound and it's usually if I slightly rev the engine during the change. It was suggested in another thread or two that it would be the thrust bearing so...
I think that the thrust bearing might need replacing at some point on my car from what has been said on here and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how much it would cost me at a garage to get a new thrust bearing.
I believe the clutch has to be taken off to do this and therefor...
My clio has a heavy clutch and I thought that especially when I first got it.
TBH I would get the clutch replaced yet unless it wasn't working properly as there may be no need to get it replaced.
Mines is a Mk1 Ph2 1.4 RT and I think mine has roller on the front and tapered on the back from what I have been told. I think they will be the same on yours. I would get someone else to comfirm this but certainly in the haynes manual it says the rear are tapered. It doesn't say that the front...
So really to see about 110 to 120bhp I would be looking at spending somewhere in the region of £600?
Could any of the above work be done by myself and if so how much would it then cost in terms of parts? I wouldn't want to do the work on my own engine as I would probably take ages to get it...
I've not done the rear bearings but I thought that if the bearings had gone there would be a certain amount of play in the wheel? There isn't any play whatsoever in the wheels though.
I'm going to put the steelies back on the rear of the car and see if the noise is still there because if it's...
I've checked all the wheels and there is not any play in any of them. In terms of noise from the wheels when rotating them there are a couple of different noises from the back wheels.
The rear drivers side had a noise at one point in it's rotation which made a sort of "tss" noise if you...
If you can jack the car up one wheel at a time then it should be easy to tell. Chack every wheel for play in the wheel. What I mean by that is - hold the wheel at 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock and try to rock the wheel back and forth. If there is any sort of movement whatsoever then something...
At a garage it cost me £70 to get my bearings done mate - the bearings themselves were about £25 of that (i.e. £45 labour.)
If you were able to take the hub off yourself you could just take that to the garage and they should press in new bearings for you for about £5 and you can get bearings...
If I got everything in this thread http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=100409 what else would be needed and how much would it be likely to cost me in labour if I got the work done by a garage?
I'll probably not bother TBH but just thought I would look into it. Part of the reason for me thinking this was that I'm maybe going to need to get a new thrust bearing for the clutch on my own car which I believe will cost quite a bit - mainly labour. If I were to replace the engine with that...
I'm getting the same sort of noise on my Clio which is a Mk1 1.4RT. It's been suggested on here that it's probably the thrust bearing which will cos ta fair bit in labour to get done :(
At the moment I only hear the noise every now and then so I'm not sure if I'll bother replacing it anytime...
Loving the look of that Clio Lee. How much would you be wanting for it when you come round to selling it? When will you be selling it and where are you based?
Sounds good mate. Have you got any pics?
I got a 1.4RT as my first car (still got it). Insurance under my own name would have been about £1700 which I just could afford so I have been under my mums name on insurance but that will be changing in december (license for a yeat) as I can get...
As I say mine isn't really to be heard pulling away etc and is usually when changing between 3rd, 4th and 5th. I was hoping it might be the fanbelt as it would be an easier fix and a lot cheaper.
I don't really hear it that much TBH and I don't think I've heard it at all in the last two weeks.
