You are correctt re the 172, there is something wrong!.
What I mean by taking into account the transmission loss etc is the use of the 0.0013, and in fact the 375 as constants. this, I presume, is in lieu of actual figures.
Also, looking closer, the rwd conversion also uses a constant that...
difficulty here is the calculation of weight and the 0.013 as a constant.
It dont take into account tyre pressures or contact are either - or, actual transmission / drive losses, a lot of mags also test top speed from speedo, without using decent test gear.
But, its a good guide.

just a note re the cold oil..
every oil tested has a pour point temperature that is related to its viscocity ratings.. there should be no difference between same grade oils.
Love the quip re Comma oils.. hee hee..there are a lot of badged products out their !.:D...
get a custom made rad.. only 150 squid or so..
easy...
and for the sort of torque / power levels you are considering - a std box and willy clutch will be more than adequate.
Its a low VE engine so output will be restricted.. what do you plan on doing to the unit to increase power..

re the tb, naw, dont rate it as a worthwhile mod really. (there is no issue under boost btw).
The plate is fat for a reason - strength obviously, but also in the design of the reno tb, there is a curved...

it is IMPOSSIBLE to feel any difference form any oil... unless you were running trudged up crap before AND flushed everything through first..
