Exactly some things don't have a point at all, they just get done because they can be done. Many of the effects in Beryl you would not use day to day or even ever but they are available because they can be!

No. Beryl is not included on the Live CD and cannot be installed or run ontop of it. Try Sabayon Linux, it does has Beryl on the Live CD. http://www.sabayonlinux.org

As far as I know you cannot erase a DVD, you have to overwrite them. I may be wrong but none of my software lets me erase them, they actually tell me to overwrite.
