I totally agree. Even though MW2 is p2p based something has definetly happened to cause the ammount of lag and connections issues as of late. BC2 was great online as in the connection, I just hated the gameplay.
Thats Virgin ADSL by the sounds of it, can you not get Virgin Cable?
TBH mate, if you are happy with your current broadband i.e speed, price etc etc then I wouldn't change it just for COD, hopefully it will get fixed/sorted sooner or later and go back to the way it was where it is playable for...
What I mean is when your playing on your own in the day the game is managing to put you into your "suitable" ping threshold if you like which is 80-100 and the lag is fine but when you play of an evening and with others the game is putting you into lobbies of a higher ping as that is what is...
As I thought, with that kind of ping you are joining with alot of other people with a similar connection and you are less likely to notice much lag, where mine sometimes struggles to find me any games with a <50 ping so I get put in with people who are on a higher ping and I always seem to...

With ADSL your limited on how far you are from your local exchange with regards to what speeds you are likely to achieve.
I would look into who you can go with, who's in your area, what speeds you can etc...
As I say the game seems to favour players with an "inferior" connection, no offence lol so thats probably why you dont experience much lag when playing on your own.
Its been "lagging" like this for me for the past few months, not every game but certainly more bad games than good.
I dont know what it is but IMO I have a very good internet connection, both my ping and d/load and u/load speeds have to be up there as being one of best "residential" supplies in the Country. I have the 360 hard wired to the router so that rules out any wifi issues, not that there would be any...
