No need for a new shaft mate, at the worst change it for a new rubber gaiter, as said with them being plastic they are hard to get to stay on, although a jubilee clip is not overly pretty, it should do the job!! Euro motaparts in whitchurchs mate should stock the grease! Or i can get you some!

When im proper cleaning it, it takes over 2 days, wash, dry & clay it one day, then pc it etc the next, with the interior it can take over a full day easily!
