hard to say really, but could be map sensor or lambda. Have you changed the coil pack on it? might be on the way out?

if it's flashing it's either the key is knackered or needs resyncing, or the decoder ring around the barrel is gone. Car will still unlock if the key is faulty.

i'd get it stuck on clip mate. If mine is anything to go by! I've narrowed mine down to a loom failure (hopefully :S). Getting it changed as the mo.

So you have the whole bottom with the metal bits also? Have you removed your seat to see if they are easy enough to seperate? You'll just need to be careful with the release wire i'd imagine.

Guessing, I'd imagine you'd have to remove the cover. Not sure how easy that is. Then remove the piece you want, and replace. It's hard to picture what you're changing :S Pics?
