something ive always wondered myself.the gauge gets to halfway and seems to stay around that area even when its hot enough for the cooling fan to kick in but the limiter operation does work off coolant temp and it does have to be 80c.
after learning the theory of it and then seeing the actual operating revs that the system uses i admit its strange/odd. if you have access to renault literature i can find out the manual number so you can have a look for yourself.
unphased @idle>1300rpm
phased @1300rpm>4250rpm
unphased @4250rpm>max revs
phased only also occurs at full throttle(inlet manifold pressure above 850mbars) and at a coolant temp of above 80c
no idea why the phased is at those revs but i do know for sure that it is.
youd be better off buying an after market central locking kit.it would be cheaper and easier to fit rather than swapping over all genuine renault parts from another clio.
