the mk1 centre section is longer than the mk2 due to the mk1 cat being shorter.a mk2 exhaust will fit a mk1 if its got telescopic joints that will allow you to lengthen it slightly.know this for defo as i sold a mk2 system to ryhs with his mk1 and i had to extend the joint fully out so it would fit.
if the head was second hand did you check it over before you fitted it.maybe the bores/rings are dry of oil due to being stood-have you checked the compression? squirt a small amount of oil down the plug holes and turn it over,refit the plugs and try to start it.
there has been a lot of posts about sunroofs and the non avaliability of seals.a sunroof frame seal is avaliable and it will fit all older clios as well.

easy to change,drain plug just has a copper sump washer on it.
get a funnel so you can get to the filler plug on the front of the box without spilling oil everywhere

it was bolted to the manifold area before you stripped the engine.youve probably unbolted it without relising.just give it a wriggle and pull it out now.
