16v - back in the Garage! *pic*

Fan belt is done by removing the drivers side headligh (possibly bonnet) for access. Then reach to the side of the engine, where the belt is. There will be five pulleys, but the one you want is the tensioner pulley with a 6mm hex key hole in the middle - which needs to be undone. After that...

    what alloys do i get

Ive just taken the anthracite 16s off my 16v and swapped them for the original Phase 2 Speedline Vega wheels that came on the phase 2s. The anthracite looked really hard and cool, but as time goes on aftermarket wheels can look naff...

172 and Cup humbe the V6

I think that the Clio V6 is a totally different animal to any other hot hatch. Id say that it takes time to get used to it - to make full use of its traction, handling and other abilities. That goes for Clio V6 Mk1 and Mk2. I doubt theres much between a V6 and a 172/Cup in a straight line...

    172 Cup vs 172 MKI/MKII

I agree - I wasnt disputing its utility. Technology moves on and all that. But I dont think that leaving it off a car is that bad - as long as youre fully aware of that. By the look of things, thats enough to put some people off. I mean that some people will rely on the ABS in the wet - like...

    BMW reversed into me!!!

Just my pennys worth...but I hate "big brands"... Every time I see someone in a 316 or similar I just think "fashion victim". I mean, for the price of a poverty-spec BMW you can get so much more utility from something else - Skodas, Fords etc etc (most of which are a far superior car)...

    172 Cup vs 172 MKI/MKII

Im sure that ABS is a very worthwhile feature to have...but there are plenty of cars out there like GT Turbo, 205 GTi, 16v and Williams which have not usually got it...and you dont usually hear talk of those cars as "dangerous". I suppose that its a true life-saver, but does it reduce...

    info on clio turbo

16v gbox is different from the 1.4 RTs - yes. Has to cope with more power and torque for starters, then the ratios are also higher too...Ive never seen an RT get to 90+ in 3rd!! However, a 16 Valver with an RT gbox would probably do 0-60 in under 6 secs without mods...but would probably top...

Vibration of Steering Wheel at 40mph+

Could be a dented wheel. Happened to me with my 16v. I bashed it about, put it on the back for a while - and have now sold them!;)

    Cracked Sump! Any ideas

Id have it taken to somewhere like Hill Power to have it done properly. Thats the only way out unless you sell it.

    BMW reversed into me!!!

GirlRacer: I find that its those with the 5-Series downwards that are the worst! Just an example: On the way back from Donny with my mate Pete in the passengers seat, we were travelling along the M42 around Birmingham (I think!). Onto the carriageway comes a 530i at high speed. He...

VTRs are starting to be fast!!

68k would be no real obstacle to engine performance if it had been well looked after. But, just like with the 106/VTS, it is well known that some Clio/19 16v engines push out more than others. The fastest standard Clio 16v I know has 110k on the clock!

possibly giving in to get my car lowered.

Go for the lowering mate - but keep it sensible if my experience is anything to go by. Id try to keep the back just a tad higher at the back for progressive handling. The main items youll need to replace if you stay with standard shocks are the front strut top mounts.

To buy or not to buy!

It sounds to me as if youve come on here to be talked into buying the 172! Youve been over the issues already in your mind. You know why the Punto feels faster, though the Clio actually is. You could always dunp some of the soundproofing and other refinement oddities that the modern car...

    Help for my friend please!

Ive just been called out to have a look at my flatmates Polo of 1997 vintage. It has pools of water three inches deep in each of the footwells, front and rear!:o He said that this happened last year as well. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might have caused this? The sunroof is as...

VTRs are starting to be fast!!

Indeed, you say VTR on the title - but VTS in the post itself. No surprises really if it was a VTS, but there would have to be some serios mods done to the engine if it were a VTR.
