Its a bit weird for new cars to not have SH.
Id consider older cars no problems - receipts etc.. are often a better substitute. You can generally get a good idea from looking at the car to see whether or not its been looked after properly.

Some bad adapter.
You should have two looms going to the car.. one for speakers, the other for power etc..
Trace them if you can and get rid of that.. then itll just plug into most stereos!
Ph1/2 does look mint with 16v/Williams Bonnet, arches and bumper tho.. very aggressive!
Mk1 Phase3 were also voted most reliable Clio.. which is something..
