I'd also say £4k is a bit low for a decent condition example. Yes, that's the price you could get one off here for, but I'd say you're looking closer to £4.5/5k in the mainstream sources such as Autotrader, etc.
Hope it was a decent price, the cambelt alone is gonna cost a little fortune, stupid things! I'm always weary of picking up cars that haven't been looked after, but hopefully you've got a good'un!
Not 100% sure about the mods planned, but enjoy the car, get it restored to its former glory!
Not really fussed to be honest, just fancied getting them looking nice for FCS. I had a go at them today and got nowhere! LIiterally, couldn't even get the nuts off with a breaker bar included!
I used Autoglym wheel cleaner stuff which is pretty damn strong, but didn't budge the stuff in the...
Ah, I see. Well that makes sense but, as above, I wouldn't get something like a Williams. It would probably work out better getting some cheap to buy, run and insure so you can really save some money, and then go back into hot hatch heaven when things have settled down a bit.
I'm going to have a go at getting off all the seriously ground in brake dust on my wheels today... what's the best way to go around it? This stuff is seriously stuck on so is going to need some persuasion!
matbrown, how much money did you free up by changing to a Williams? Even ignoring maintenance and servicing, I wouldn't have thought it would give you much extra to play with...
You wouldn't save much on insurance, so you'd only be freeing up about £2k in cash I'd have thought mate, plus increased maintenance costs.
If money is this tight (and I only say this because it is for me also at the moment), maybe you're not ready to buy a house yet mate. I'm just not sure...
The dealer would be bending you over for £5500 mate. If you're set on getting a house then sell your car private for the best possible money, but only you can make that decision.
As for buying a house and watching it's value go up, this is only good if there's a price crash which there shows...
Quick update and also testing my new phone!
Gave it another quick wash and wax and then another layer of wax just to increase the protection...
Now to keep it like this until FCS, avoid every single raindrop and remove each wheel to rid them of brake dust... and get the hole in...
I could be tempted if something can be arranged...
Freebone, if you're still in correspondance with them, can you ask if they do editing at all? Some of the pics seem a bit too clean considering they're joe public cars (no stone chips, etc)... I'd be worried that every little chip would show...
Cool, cheers :)
I was really impressed with the OCW when Rich used it recently so was just wondering how it would work wth the P21S as well, I'll get purchasing!
I suppose this is mainly aimed at Rich, but if anyone knows then please feel free to butt in...
Is it worth buying both P21S and the Optimum Car Wax and applying one after the other, or will the OCW sealant effectively do the job of the P21s as well, and vice versa?
I had to drive about 100 miles on the motorway without my backbox in my 172 (well, I had the backbox.. in the boot) and it was a couple days later before it was fixed. Lost power but Mr. AA man said no damage would come of running the car like it for a little while, just keep the windows wound up!
I'm in Exeter mate.
I'm going to give the car a once-over tomorrow but it looks like it'll be a pretty effortless job, no dirt seems to be sticking to the paintwork, very good sealant! Can't believe how quick and easy it was to apply either, no need to break out in a sweat after all that PC...
It was quite strange comparing it to the 306, as when I first pulled up and the 172 was dirty, the 306 seemed to be gleaming in comparison. By the time we finished, the 306 still looked clean, but the silver seemed to have turned into grey!
The car will be looking the same (or as near as I can...
Lol, yeah I'll get some new supplies and give it a once over on Tuesday just to get the motorway muck off but for 130 miles of drizzle and horrible splash-back it's looking very nice.
I think it's far to say the camera doesn't do either car justice, I didn't notice quite HOW immaculate your's...
Lol, cheers again Rich, it's a shame the sun wouldn't open up properly to really catch the flake, but we both know that it glistened!
If you could give me the link to the sealant as well mate, it's raining here now and I'm very impressed by the beading!
Top stuff! :)
Cheers Rich, back home safe and well! It rained a bit on the way home but it beaded fine and looks almost the same!
Really pleased with how it turned out. As we discussed, the paint is generally pretty good and didn't show up much in the way of bad swirls, etc, but it's still impressive how...
Buggery, I did similar in my old Ph1 106 XSi and the damage was no where near that bad! Broken rear light and a slight dent in the bumper!
As above, I wouldn't go through insurance, £500 initial payout plus the increased insurance costs just doesn't make it worthwhile.
